They Named Me 47.

Posted : 4 months ago on 31 August 2009 09:31 (A review of Hitman)

A man who was raised to be an assassin grows up around weaponry, combat training, and is marked with a bar code on the back of his shaved head; given a number, not a name. The number is 47, and he is a killing machine without feelings or emotions of any kind. Given a hit by "The Organization" without realizing it is a setup, 47 kills the Russian President only to be the target of not only Interpol, but the Secret Russian police as well as the "organization" who hired him and gave him the contract. To top things off, the president appears on televison, without a bullet in his head and still breathing; and what 47 knows is not only should President Belicoff be on a cold slab somewhere, but he should also be payed for what he did. Equiped with a new gameplan, the movie takes flight with hundreds of bullets sent flying from 47's guns and dozens of victims who got in his way to finish what he started; the death of the Russian president and the double who was responsible for the hit and had his own greedy agenda to run the country. I have played very little of the game, and though the film I saw some views given in the game, Xavier Gens is an AMAZING director (with 2 perfect films under his belt worth watching more than once). Winner of the 2008 golden Trialer award for Best motion/Title Graphics, this film is one of the best movies made from a video game to date.

Agent 47: Because that suitcase perfectly holds my Blazer Sniper Rifle, two .45s and a gag for irritating, talkative little girls like yourself. You want me to stop and get it out?

Games likes Hitman definitely needs a movie, because they are not just a game. This movie was OK, it was too short but didnt bore me. And the scenes from Turkey, my Istanbul was cool. Desmond and T-Bag did the movie more exciting and the end was touchable and original.

A genetically made egghead assassin based on the computer game.

Timothy Olyphant looks the part, saw him in Die Hard 4.0 first and this looked like a good move by his agent (47) and is. (Bad joke i know!).

Hitman is perhaps style over substance. Especially its action sequences are well directed and great looking, making this simply a fine action-flick to watch. The movie gets really carried by those sequences and are what is making "Hitman" still a seriously fine and enjoyable flick to watch. You don't have to be a fan of the video games to enjoy this movie.

Because the story doesn't really work out, the character of agent 47 also doesn't really. They try to give him a more humane face and he wants to start a normal life on his own. The movie builds up and hints to this constantly but in the end it doesn't wrap it up properly, which makes it look like as if all those moments within the movie are pointless and don't serve a significant enough purpose for the main character. Same goes for the love interest played by former model Olga Kurylenko. In the long run you're only wondering; 'Now what was exactly the purpose of this character in the movie?'.

Perhaps it's also Timothy Olyphant fault, who plays the movie its main character. At times he's acting too much, rather than being agent 47 enough. Agent 47 is cool and to the point, who never looses his focus on things. In this movie he's constantly struggling with himself and the world and by default he also has way too many lines, in my personal opinion. I think that the character would had worked out way better if he had been an almost complete mute. It would had made the character cooler and more mysterious and would had given the other actors, mainly Olga Kurylenko and Dougray Scott, to do their thing and become the more 'human' face of the movie.

For Olga Kurylenko is especially a real discovery. She had starred in movies before but mostly in small unknown small French flicks. But main thing is that she can really act and she of course also has the looks, which helps her a lot. Because of those two reasons she also got cast as Bond-girl in the new Bond movie "Quantum of Solace", which will be released later this year.

All in all, "Hitman" is a movie, with superior action sequences, that I enjoyed watching but its story and main approach of things prevent this from being an absolute genre must-see.

Action packed and a tense thrill ride. Lots of twists and clever assassin ploys, snipering and is so much like the game that it feels like your playing it.

Loved the scenes with the sword fight on the train and the other part where the kids are actually playing Hitman when he bursts through a window into their room.

Olga Kurylenko as the female lead does very well and her chemistry is above par with Timothy. Some awkward scenes but mostly great.

A very good film.

Hitman

"Because that suitcase perfectly holds my Blazer Sniper Rifle, two .45s and a gag for irritating, talkative little girls like yourself. You want me to stop and get it out?"

Hitman was a movie that I had no real set expectations for. All I knew was the fact that it's a video game adaptation and that it is basically a agent/killing type of movie. That's it. I found it to be a stylish and entertaining movie, but it certainly could have been better.

Timothy Olyphant has the title role of the 'Hitman', also known as Agent 47. He has no real name and very few memories of how he came to the profession that he is in. The plot I am told is not based on the storyline used in the game, so I'm guessing that the only real similarity between the two would be the characters and their main background. The plot I found quite confusing at times, it was detailed and perplexing.. but at the same time riveting and interesting to watch. It had its ups and downs, and scenes that I felt didn't quite need to be in there. I found myself wondering certain things even at the end of the film when all should have been explained, but the fact that it left me still wondering and mystified was a good thing in a way.

To me the dialogue was one of this movie's downfalls. Sometimes there's a sudden clever or amusing remark, but at other times I felt that it certainly could have been improved. The setting and action scenes were excellent and stylish, if only the other aspects of this film could match the action scenes, which I must add were superbly directed by Xavier Gens.

Timothy Olyphant was an exceptional choice as the lead character in Hitman. His performance was riveting in itself; he kind of created an iconic side to his character and a softer side aswell. Just his facial expression defines the character. Olga Kurylenko wasn't terrible to say the least. I didn't expect an amazing performance from her, but she certainly showed that she is capable of roles such as hers. The cast were mostly great choices; I can't narrow down to the ones that could have been chosen differently.

Compared to other video game adaptations, Hitman has certainly made it's mark on not being one of the worst. If you are a fan of the 'Bourne' series, then this will be worth a try. They both have the same kind of plot and similar direction. Hitman was enthralling and had a gripping plot, although there were some things that could have made Hitman a whole lot better.

Very entertaining

This has got to be one of the best action films of 2007. At first, I didn't think Timothy Olyphant would suite Agent 47's role very role. But I was pleasantly surprised. He did great.

As for the plot. It had kind of a bourne film style to it. It really made the film better.

The fight sequences were incredible. Extremely well choreographed, and a joy to watch.

Overall a very good movie
