This film reminded me of Fritz Lang's 'M' in many ways, particularly with its dark and moody setting. It's a classic Kurosawa film with another powerhouse performance from Toshiro Mifune. The man is such a presence on screen.

The plot revolves around the kidnapping of a young boy who is mistakenly identified as the son of a powerful corporate shoe salesman. Torn between whether he ... read more

A very good movie

In its own genre (kidnapping/ransom), it is easily the best movie ever made. No shootings, no chases, no explosions,.... Just a captivating story brought by an amazing cast and it shows that Kurosowa is a director with a very wide range. Definitely worth a look, especially if you're Kurosawa fan.

At a crucial point in his business life, executive Gondo learns that his son has been kidnapped and that the ransom demanded is near the amount Gondo has raised for a critical business deal. Gondo is prepared to pay the ransom - that is, until he learns that the kidnappers have mistakenly abducted not Gondo's son, but the child of Gondo's chauffeur. Now Gondo must decide whether the other man's child is equally worth saving.

"Välillä kosketus Kurosawan tuotantoon. Erittäin mainio elokuva täynnä tunteita. Ansaitsee useampiakin katselukertoja. Tässä on myös erittäin hieno englanninkielinen title. Ehkä yksi parhaimmista. "
