Utterly disturbing masterpiece. The horror in this one comes from the fact that it feels utterly real.
Even more disturbing than the violence and heartlessness of Henry is the increasing desensitization to killing that Otis transitions through. I've had nightmares about that and this film. Absolute masterpiece.
"Henry likes to kill people, in different ways each time. Henry shares an apartment with Otis. When Otis’ sister comes to stay, we see both sides of Henry; the “guy-next-door” and the serial killer. Low budget movie, with some graphic murder scenes.

"Why it's on the list: Will dear Henry ever give up his psychotic tendencies for the love of a good woman, or will her eviscerated corpse end up crammed into suitcase? Inquiring minds want to know.

"The Movie Story: Henry is a serial killer who's killed hundreds of people, sometimes aided by his roommate, Otis. He finds some solace in Otis's sister, Becky.
The Real Story: Writer/director John McNaughton was inspired by serial killer Henry Lee Lucas, who had an accomplice named Ottis Toole and a romantic relationship with Otis' young relative (his niece, Frieda Powell). However, the movie's killing spree is based more on Lucas' confessions than on actual fact. Lucas confessed to 600 murders,"

"I've always been fascinated by serial killers so this movie has been on my queue for a while. And it was really good. What it lacked was a bit more depth to the characters and the story, but otherwise this was worth the watch. I really like how Michael Rooker portrayed Henry, and how he managed to give him that little hint of humanity. I think the whole movie was pretty much a romanticized version of the real Henry Lee Lucas' life (like movies usually are). Even though the kill scenes were rathe"
"The main disturbing thing about Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is not the fact that it is a true story serial killer movie, but instead the idea that the pure horror and disgust the viewer feels towards this person during most the film, turns into some kind of compassion at some specific point. At that time I found myself thinking inconsciously that he wasn't that evil. Of course I was mistaken."
