"Good night sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."
Hamlet is a modern Shakespeare play adaptation that I found to be both visually stunning, but also a compelling and engaging film. Complete with a stellar cast, this is a rare film that shouldn't me missed.
I can't call myself a huge fan of some other films based on one of Shakespeare's plays, b... read more
I'm not at all a fan of those modern Shakespeare adaptations. I have seen at least 3 of them (this flick, 'O', Romeo+Juliet) and none of them has convinced me. However, there are still some good things about this version. First of all, the cast is rather amazing (Ethan Hawke, Kyle MacLachlan, Sam Shepard, Bill Murray, Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles, Steve Zahn, Jeffrey Wright, Casey Affleck) and the... read more

Tämän sovituksen Hamlet on pipopäinen elokuvaopiskelijahipsteri, joka filosofoi viilettäessään pitkin New Yorkin katuja. Ethan Hawke on pääosassa ok.

First of all, the cast is rather amazing (Ethan Hawke, Kyle MacLachlan, Sam Shepard, Bill Murray, Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles, Steve Zahn, Jeffrey Wright, Casey Affleck) and they all deliver the goods and the directing was pretty good aswell. I think the main issue is that I was rather bored the whole thing. Anyway, if you're big Shakespeare fan, it is still worth a look.
"based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet set in modern Manhattan. In this version of Hamlet, Claudius becomes King and CEO of "Denmark Corporation", having taken over the firm by killing his brother, Hamlet's father. The film keeps the Shakespearean dialogue but presents a modern setting, with technology such as video cameras, Polaroid cameras, and surveillance bugs."
"Ethan Hawke plays Hamlet in this semi-successful attempt to reinterpret the play. Hamlet's monologues in the play come across as deranged ramblings of a young man in shock in the movie. The movie lacks impact and Ethan Hawke lacks presence."
