John Waters toned down for PG, it's a crime, a menace and a mistake. This first adaption of the Broadway musical is of course eons better than the dreadful remake, but even getting shot in the face is more desirable than watching the 2007 tragedy of a movie so that's not much of a compliment.
Ricki Lake plays (un)pleasantly plump Tracy Turnblad, an early 60s gal who just wants to dance her chubby little arse off without being ridiculed for her large girth and mass. Speaking of wideness,"

"John Waters first "mainstream" film about an overweight young girl in the 60's who lands a job as a dancer on a popular musical TV show, and uses it to her advantage to bring attention to the injustices of racial segregation. The film inspired a broadway musical of the same name, which was then turned into a movie by Adam Shankman in 2007, starring John Travolta & Michelle Pfeiffer. "
