Predicting the Winners of the 2017 Oscars (21 movies items)

"And the Nominees are... *Tom Cross- La La Land *John Gilbert- Hacksaw Ridge *Jake Roberts- Hell or High Water *Nat Sanders and Joi McMillon- Moonlight *Joe Walker- Arrival And the Oscar goes to... I'm going with the upset here, and going with something other than La La Land. While the technical side of the hit musical is beyond reproach, the editing isn't as noticeable as other departments (namely the cinematography). Usually here, the most edited film wins; if that's true, then it'll probab"

Hacksaw Ridge

“Desmond Doss’ story is unique, and deserves to be told for the bravery and emotional commitment to his deeply held beliefs. However, Mel Gibson, an actor/director who practically licks his lips and pleasures himself to mosaics of carnage, is not the right voice to bring that material to life. Hacksaw Ridge is a mess, a film that all but pins a permanent halo around Andrew Garfield’s adorable face while gleefully taking pleasure in its scenes of violence. Call it pious gore porn for the fundamentalist Christian set.   The same brigade of Academy voters who ushered in large nomination scores for American Sniper and Bridge of Spies, both sleepy, tedious films that conservative dad and/or uncle types love, dropped six nominations into this film’s lap. I get the sound awards, maybe eve” read more

"2/2/17 Mel Gibson's return to directing is a slightly unbalanced war film based on the true story of a conscientious objector and his rise to hero during a battle in the South Pacific.Told in three sections, the first two are cliched and mundane while the final hour, the battle scenes, are incredibly visceral but far too long to cause repetition."

"Can't express how happy I am to see Mel Gibson back in the spotlights again! Congrats the Oscar nomination on directing. His one of my childhood heroes and one of my favorite actors/directors and again he has proven himself as a director. Hacksaw Ridge was very enjoyable war film since Fury (2014). Andrew Garfield's performance as Desmond Doss was great. War scenes has that brutal and realistic feeling what Gibson can direct perfectly. Braveheart (1995) and Apocalypto (2006) are prove for that. My Movie Diary 2017 (217 movies items)

"31 January. Mel Gibson goes back to war and have chosen a redeemable story of heroism. And although the title is about a war in Okinawa, it is ultimately about the impossible feat of Pvt. Desmond Doss and how he saved 75 injured soldiers without firing a single shot. Imagine that. A story like this is already the price of admission. And the movie did well, telling Doss’ background story just enough for us to know him that when it comes to hero time, we understand. Andrew Garfield in a win-win "
