HACK THE PLANET!!

Clearly I am obsessed with this movie. And why not? It's great. If I have a favourite quote, it has got to be "techno weenie". God, that is sooo funny.

Basically, it's about this teenager, Dade Murphy (Johnny Lee Miller) aka Crash Override/Zero Cool, that's been convicted once because of this major virus that crashed 1507 Wall Street computers. Then he discovers that there is a majo... read more

Personally, I have always been fascinated by hackers. It is probably due to some kind of professional deformation since I have been working in the IT business for more than a decade now. Anyway, even though I always been interested by this subject, I have noticed that it has always been constantly poorly developed in the movies (even in ‘The Matrix’ which is supposed to be classic, the hacking... read more

The film follows the exploits of a group of gifted high school hackers and their involvement in a corporate extortion conspiracy. In 1988, Seattle youth Dade "Zero Cool" Murphy (Jonny Lee Miller) is arrested and charged, at the age of 11, with crashing 1,507 systems in one day and causing a single-day 7-point drop in the New York Stock Exchange. Upon conviction, he is banned from owning or operating computers or touch-tone telephones until his 18th birthday.

Anyway, even though I always been interested by this subject, I have noticed that it has always been constantly poorly developed in the movies (even in ‘The Matrix’ which is supposed to be classic, the hacking was seriously laughable). Apparently, the acclaimed TV-show ‘Mr. Robot’ is finally dealing properly with this subject and I will definitely check it out at some point. Anyway, more than 20 years ago, they made this flick which, with such a title, should have been the ultimate movie about this topic but, unfortunately, the whole thing was terribly underwhelming.
