Charles Dickens' classic tale of Pip, a poor orphan who befriends an escaped convict and who grows up in the company of a bitter old woman, Miss Havisham, and her haughty young ward, Estella. Pip learns the rewards of both vindictiveness and gratitude as a result of these events.

Eventually, even though I did like it, I can’t say I was really blown away by the whole thing. I don’t know, maybe it has to with the fact that I never really loved those Charles Dickens’ movie adaptations. Maybe I should try the books instead, if I recall correctly , the late Roger Ebert was a massive fan of these books. Anyway, it remains a pretty good flick though. Indeed, the cinematography was really nice, something expected from a David Lean production, and the acting was really solid as well. Another interesting element in the movie was that it featured Alec Guinness' first maj” read more

"Home - New Just amazing. Fantastic performances all around and Lean's roving camera really brings life to the Victorian society that Pip finds himself in. His version of Mrs. Haversham is utterly iconic and the opening sequence in the graveyard between Pip and a convict is a perfect example of tension through implication. "
