A very good movie

Since I kept hearing some pretty good things about this flick, I was really eager to check this flick. Indeed, even though Ian McKellen is above all famous for his roles in the X-men and Lord of the rings franchises, he is actually much more than that and these movies only focus on his amazing charisma but don’t really display the depth of his acting range. This movie is a fine example. Indeed, ... read more

One of the most brilliant, shocking films I have ever seen. What an experience seeing all the film's content, as well as the crazily convincing performance by Sir Ian McKellen.

Description: Based on Christopher Bram's novel FATHER OF FRANKENSTEIN, Bill Condon's semi-fictional 1998 sleeper stars Sir Ian McKellen in a fantastic performance as director James Whale (FRANKENSTEIN, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, SHOW BOAT). It is 1957, and Whale is living in semiseclusion in Southern California with his scrutinizing maid, Hannah (Lynn Redgrave). His health is failing, and he is able to do little but lounge around and contemplate his younger days--his many male loves, his days in WWI, and the film world that has forsaken him. When Whale first gazes upon his musclebound gardener, Clay (Brendan Fraser), however, it is the beginning ... (more)

BradWesley123's Movie Journal- January 2016 (33 movies items)

" DVD- 1hr. 45min. First Viewing Gods and Monsters is an infinitely entertaining movie about old Hollywood, and repression. It's a credit to Condon's direction and writing that the movie isn't a narrative and tonal mess, employing an assuredly delicate touch. The film often soars thanks to it's cast; Fraser gets the least to do, but is solid; Redgrave is commanding as the dedicated servant; McKellen gives the movie it's soul in what should've been an Oscar winning performance. 30 From 98: My Favorite Films From 1998 (30 movies items)

"James Whale was a director of cinema during the 1930's, most famous for his work on the first full feature film depicting Mary Shelly's Frankenstein Monster and on it's sequel, the Bride Of Frankenstein. Fronted with exceptional performances from it's major players, this movie is a story that focuses on a fictionalized version of his last troubled days before the director was found dead in his pool. Pigeonholed as a maker of mostly "monster flix", living an open life as a homosexual, and after "
