"ALWAYS BE CLOSING!"

8 years, 3 months ago at Sep 1 4:26

A Well-played, well-written look at the bottom rung on society--salesman. Real-estate, exactly.

Yes, it's a "photographed play." Like just about every other play adaptation to the big screen... but it's so well done, you don't care. Like "The Odd Couple" or... "Lost In Yonkers..."

The actors thankfully move outsid... read more

super weak story line. A puty regarding the nice line up. Pacino plays really great

When an office full of New York City real estate salesmen is given the news that all but the top two will be fired at the end of the week, the atmosphere begins to heat up. Shelley Levene (Jack Lemmon), who has a sick daughter, does everything in his power to get better leads from his boss, John Williamson (Kevin Spacey), but to no avail. When his coworker Dave Moss (Ed Harris) comes up with a plan to steal the leads, things get complicated for the tough-talking salesmen.

Glengarry Glen Ross

“You know what’s a great way to make an entertaining movie? Give a series of juicy monologues and biting one-liners to a group of highly talented actors and point a camera at them. No fuss, just the joy of watching the greats knock out a few rounds with well-written material and play off of each other. Behold then Glengarry Glen Ross.   Yes, it doesn’t exactly open up the play much as it keeps its scope limited to a few interiors, but mainly the claustrophobic office that reverberates with pessimistic foreboding. But here’s the thing, director James Foley hired a great editor, Howard E. Smith, to make the rhythms of David Mamet’s dialog work in perfect sync with the cuts, close-ups, and various stylistic choices. Foley knows he doesn’t need to embellish much, he just needs to f” read more

"The whole movie is bla, bla, bla. There is talking, talking all the time. So boring...there was only one good scene at the beginning with Alec Baldwin playing an arrogant asshole. So many stars in this movie... but still so boring. I don't understand the high imdb/listal rating. my rating: 5,75"

Moviewatcher122's 2016 Film Diary: November (12 movies items)

"November 12 "They say that it was so hot in the city today, grown men were walking up to cops on street corners begging them to shoot them." I've been wanting to see this movie for a while now and I have to say that it's just as great as I thought it would be. It has a fantastic cast, tons of memorable dialogue and scenes and great acting all around. That one scene in particular with Alec Baldwin delivering this speech was just amazing. While it does fall short of getting a perfect score fro"

" Notes: First of all, I have to point out that, even though I have seen many movies written by David Mamet or based on his work (about 19 if I’m not mistaken) , I can’t say I have really been blown by his stuff. This movie must be however the exception. Indeed, it was based on his Pulitzer prize winning drama and the whole thing was simply just spellbinding to behold. Indeed, the concept was in fact pretty simple and the whole idea was to have a bunch of great actors put together deliverin"
