I watched this purely because I am strangely attracted to both of the female cast members who star in the show. I was certainly not left feeling hollow or superficial at the end of the film though. What starts off as a happy and fairly aimless movie ends up as quite a sad and emotional tale.

I know nothing about the graphic novel on which this is based, but I have experienced first... read more

While I had seen Scarlett Johansson before in other movies, this was the first one where I had actually "fallen in love" with her.
I always liked Dan Clowes' comics. His work definitely subscribed to the idea of having a "style that was all his own". And for my money, this style fits in even more effectively in the medium of film than it does in the comicbook version of what is known as th... read more

After all those American Pie clones, we may have forgotten how it is to be in your late teens. Those movies may be entertaining (most aren't though) but they are most of time completely unrealistic. Ghost World is a wake up call and send you right back in the reality. I really loved it.

Description: Set in the summer after graduation, Enid and Rebecca are both outsiders in a world slowly being engulfed by fake 50's diners and Starbucks. Enid must attend an art class to officially graduate high school as Rebecca gets a job. When the two play a mean joke on a much older, geeky record collector, Enid finds a fellow soul and begins t ... (more)

Fashion Inspirations From Fictional Characters (15 movies items)

" Based on the graphic novel, Ghost World is one of the coolest movie ever made. To me, it was a late discovery: I watched it somewhere in January 2013. Whaaaaaat? Hey, at least I watched it! I don't know how come I had never heard of it before, considering that I love Thora Birch and have a major crush on Steve Buscemi. Maybe I don't hang out with the right people, I don't know. So, long story made short, this is about two friends who just graduated high-school. Both social outcasts, they ch"

)- Ambiguous Endings -( (14 movies items)

" Rebellious and artistic Enid (Thora Birch) falls in love with an older man (Steve Buscemi), but after finally sleeping with him, he awakes to find her gone. At the end of the film we see Enid with a suitcase at the bus stop where she had previously told an old man the bus no longer stopped. It could be symbolic of her growing up and moving on, or maybe there really was a bus after all, and maybe Enid has left everyone behind."

The 30 Best Teen Movies of the Past 30 Years (30 movies items)

"There's real teen angst going on in director Terry Zwigoff's sardonic look at life after high school for two small town best friends. The film helped launch Scarlett Johansson's career, but she plays second fiddle to Thora Birch's hipster outsider, Enid, who falls for a curmudgeon, played by Steve Buscemi. Haven't we all? 2001 runner-up: Donnie Darko, American Pie 2"

Favourite Movies Based on Comic Books (10 movies items)

" The main reason I appreciate this picture so much is that it focuses on a sort of character rarely seen in movies, and does so with wit and thoughtfulness. The cynical and individualistic main character can't relate to most people, as she finds them unbearably shallow and fake. I was really impressed by how observantly this picture captured her perspective and experience with subtlety and authenticity."
