Monsters Mash #7 Universal Cycle-Frankenstein

4 years, 2 months ago at Sep 25 0:46
Welcome to Monster Mash, the year is 1931 the sound era is young and horror cycle is going on. Universal were just fresh off Dracula and now they have made Frankenstein [img id=4215877 width=500full] Bela Lugosi was asked to play the role of Frankenstein but it wasn't appealing since he would be covered in Make up and wouldn't have any dialogue that when Boris Karloff came in to play and he would ... read more

Spook-fest 2016 (35 movies items)

"One of the first of the Universal Monsters films, it still holds strong as one of the best. Despite some extraneous scenes of stuffy dialogue, this is one to come back to year after year. Karloff's breakthrough role is obviously the big draw, though the performance of Colin Clive as Dr. Frankenstein and the classic horror style of the sets round out the enjoyability. Frankenstein's lab is particularly wonderful. Also, praise to Jack Pierce for creating one of the most iconic monster faces ever."

"This one's from Bride of Frankenstein. The monster's burnt-out look is a giveaway."

50 Great Movies That Were Not Nominated For Any Os (50 movies items)

"Sixty years on, Ian McKellen would pick up an Oscar nomination for playing “Frankenstein,” director James Whale in Bill Condon’s “Gods & Monsters,” but the real Whale wasn’t as lucky: his still-definitive take on Mary Shelley’s horror classic was completely ignored at the 5th ever Academy Awards. One might point to the Academy’s anti-genre bias, but this was also the year that Fredric March won Best Actor for “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.” Whale’s superior sequel “Bride of Fran"

"They have tried to avoid copying this iconic look in many latter iterations. But it is only to their detriment, for Frankenstein's monster will forever be cast in the public subconscious as a version of this classic portrayal."
