This fictional WW1 dogfighting movie is 'loosely' based on the the Lafayette Escadrille squadraon, a French squadron that consisted of of American fighter pilots. And its true that casualities were heavy, but also true that did a lot of kills themselves, with 11 of them becoming aces. The 'loose' part is that the characters portrayed in the film are not based on any specific individuals. For exa... read more

Not to be confused with ‘The Flyboys’ released in 2008. To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for James Franco, I thought I might as well check it out. First of all, have you noticed the amound of work done by James Franco?!? Indeed, he has already played in more than 60 movies, directed already a dozen of features, written several boo... read more

"8. Fly in a fighter jet General information about flying a fighter jet: Once on the base you will undergo a brief medical to ensure you are fit enough for your flight. It is generally considered that if you are fit enough to ride a roller coaster then you are fit enough to take a jet flight. You will plan everything with your pilot before the flight- the type of experience you want to feel, the amount of actual flying you want to do and the route. Following the flight brief you will be fitt"

First of all, have you noticed the amound of work done by James Franco?!? Indeed, he has already played in more than 60 movies, directed already a dozen of features, written several books, followed some classes in UCLA and NY, teached as well in NYU, was involved in some art projects,… The guy probably doesn’t sleep much, I guess. Anyway, as a result, not all his movies are amazing and this movie was a perfect example. Indeed, I really like James Franco and there were some nice aerial action scenes but that was it, I’m afraid. And its true that casualities were heavy, but also true that did a lot of kills themselves, with 11 of them becoming aces. The 'loose' part is that the characters portrayed in the film are not based on any specific individuals. For example, the black pilot never was in Lafayette, although he was american and joined another french squadron, and after US entered WW1, he was barred from flying because he was black. So although he was never in this US squadron, I can see why writers of this film decided to lump him in, to tell a few historic stories all in one film withouth going into too much detail.
