It was kind of a shock to see this kind of film from Ozu. (I've only seen some of his filmography so maybe some of his other films have characters who are equally flawed, cruel, confrontational, and petty, but are fundamentally good people.) But this is pure Ozu; his static shots, the pillow shots, composition, use of primary colors, and lack of editing flourish"

DIRECTED BY Yasujiro Ozu
One of the best-looking films out there. Lovely pinkish colors, beautiful Japanese architecture, little household items and dresses, and so on. I just prefer my Ozu with a more focused story (Autumn Afternoon and Tokyo Story are brilliant). There are too many characters left a bit underdeveloped.
