What's with the stupid, sappy endings in so many American films? Can't anyone in the states figure out how to end a film? bah!

"Nobody could've landed that plane like I did."

Though Robert Zemeckis has spent the last decade dabbling in motion-capture and animation, his skills as a live-action director have not diminished in the slightest. Returning to live-action for the first time since Cast Away, 2012's Flight is one of Zemeckis' most thematically heavy, dark and outright dramatic picture in years, dabbli... read more

I'm putting this here to remind myself to at least try to re-do my review of this movie, and..... I don't know, "John Q." here did a great job, so....

It's a great character movie; it's a character study.

There. There's my executive summary. More to follow along those lines, I hope.

A good movie

“After experimenting for about a decade with motion-capture with some rather mixed results (I wonder how he felt after James Cameron reached such a massive success with 'Avatar'), Robert Zemeckis was back with a good old live action feature and I was therefore really curious about the damned thing. On top of that, Roger Ebert really loved this flick so it sounded like a very interesting feature. Eventually, I did like it but I don't think that Zemeckis was the right director for this material. I mean, it was quite a strong story and, at the center, you had a really impressive Denzel Washington who gave definitely here one of his best performances but, somehow, it didn’t completely grab me. I mean, it was some very dark material and I don't think that the guy behind such movies like 'Ro” read more

Top-flight drama from Zemeckis

“"Nobody could've landed that plane like I did."

Though Robert Zemeckis has spent the last decade dabbling in motion-capture and animation, his skills as a live-action director have not diminished in the slightest. Returning to live-action for the first time since Cast Away, 2012's Flight is one of Zemeckis' most thematically heavy, dark and outright dramatic picture in years, dabbling in R-rated territory (an area very rarely explored by the filmmaker) as he deals with addiction and the grim side of humanity in an uncompromising fashion. Due to this, Flight is not an especially pleasurable viewing experience, and movie-goers expecting fluffy entertainment should look elsewhere. Nonetheless, this is a competently-produced and superbly acted motion picture which deserves to be seen” read more
