Historical, epic and well executed but boring on the whole compared to Letters. Glorifying heroes and putting the flag up symbolises victory. Above average war film. The Japanese point of view is portrayed in a movie also directed by Clint Eastwood. It is called "Letters From Iwo Jima" and also known as "Black Sand, Red Sun".
