This film is a shocking portrait of arguably the most influential and certainly the most notorious rock group of all time. It documents the story of The Sex Pistols, charting their rise from the litter-stacked back-streets of '70s London through their crucifixion by the British tabloids and ultimate implosion on tour in America. Painted against the political, economic and cultural backdrop of London in the mid-'70s, the film depicts what was to become a key transitional moment in English social history. Culled primarily from the band's own 20-hour-plus archive of never before seen footage, The Filth and the Fury captures the very essence of the punk movement.... (more)(less)
"The Sex Pistols are not just a punk band, they were a cultural phenomenon frozen in an era of time. Julien Temple who also directed The Great Rock N Roll Swindle (1980), focused on the members with fitting candor. All the best footages are here: the concerts, the TV appearances, the filth, the fury and all the other bloody mess. "

"John Lydon
Musician
Take one band of mediocre talent and throw in some anti-establishment lyrics, practised incompetence and controversial television appearances and you've got yourself a punk movement. At the forefront is Johnny Rotten, lead singer of the Sex Pistols. He's swearing on national TV - take that establishment!"
