Description: God and Satan war over earth; to settle things, they wager on the soul of Faust, a learned and prayerful alchemist. During a plague, Faust despairs and burns his books after failing to stop death; Satan sends Mephisto to tempt Faust, first with insight into treating the plague and then with a day's return to youth. Mephisto is clever, timing the end of this 24 hours as Faust embraces the beautiful Duchess of Parma. Faust trades his soul for youth. Some time later, he's bored, and demands on Easter Sunday that Mephisto take him home. Faust promptly sees and falls in love with the beautiful Gretchen, whose liaison with him brings ... (more)

"Faust - Eine Deutsche Volkssage / Fausto Direção: F.W.

Rediscovering Horror: a new project (26 movies items)

"Viewed on: August 4 2012 Beautiful cinematography. Very emotive and powerful special effects, with extreme dramatics in acting. I really needed to see this movie. I now understand the fascination and love that people feel for some of the brilliantly visual silent movies. The images are unforgettable. This is a movie worth owning. "

Visuaalisesti elokuva on aivan mestari"

Film Journal 2011 (88 movies items)

" October 21st - A powerful and beautiful silent film that has some absolutely stunning mise-en-scène. F.W. Murnau uses miniatures, double exposures and special effects to create a world that is both Gothic and surreal. While these techniques might look more primitive and dated than effects used in modern films, there is no denying the artistry is not primitive and the effectiveness frankly exceeds that of most modern films. The sets used are masterfully crafted and have sharp angles that lo"
