Not Economically Viable.

I spent last night watching "Falling Down" as it was recommended to me by a friend of mine, as a film I must see. I read the back of the DVD case and instantly knew this film was going to be one I liked. D-Fens just a regular guy, doing a job he thinks is "right" and doing all the "right things" in life suddenly snaps when he realizes the entire world is full of shit. Determined to put the world to rights he begins a rampage through LA, all the while just "trying to get home" but coming across more and more scenarios that just take the piss and push him that bit further over the edge. His journey through the city is mirrored by the story of Detective Martin Prendergast who is just a shift away from retirement from the police force. I first saw this film when I was quite young. I was desperate to remember what it was called so I could see it again once I grew up - it made a big impression on me.

Michael Douglas stars as the hyper-stressed D-FENS who suddenly snaps whilst sitting in his car in traffic one morning. He sets out on a mission to go home to his estranged wife and child, but is forced to take the law into his own hands after a string of crimes are commited against his person on his trip. Douglas' character experiences a devolution from hero to madman status throughout the film and the ending is utterly tragic.

This, for me, is Michael Douglas' best role.

Michael Douglas captures so dramatically a character that evolves into a vigilante by succumbing to the pressures of everyday life. Overall, the movie is a little lacking on supporting cast and drama, but Douglas turns in one of the best acting performances I have seen, making it worthy of a view.
