An annoying movie based upon a good book, a classic of science-fiction. No sense of rythm, no direction, just a great deception for a fan of Ray Bradburry

A good movie

To be honest, even though I have heard about this very famous book, I have actually never read it and the main reason I wanted to check this movie was above all because it was directed by François Truffaut, one of the greatest French directors ever. This movie was a huge step for Truffaut as it would be his first (and only) English speaking production. On top of that, he was working with the love... read more

In a future totalitarian and oppressive society, where books are forbidden, Guy Montag is a fireman. The mission of firemen in this society with fireproof houses is to burn books at 451° F, the temperature of combustion of paper. Montag is married with Linda, a futile woman that joins "The Family" through the interactive television. When Montag meets Clarisse, she asks him if he has ever read a book - Montag becomes curious. He decides to steal and read a book, twisting his view of life.

Movie Reviews (1051-1100) (50 movies items)

" What happens to the world when people starts reading and just believe what they see on T.V. and only start to follow the government. The parallels with real life regimes are too close for comfort which also was the meaning of the book by legend Ray Bradbury. It is sadly Francois Truffaut's only English-speaking film, but he deliver a wonderful novel to life here and Julie Christie is great in a dual-role. "

"27.8. (DVD/Kirjasto) Kirjojen rakastelijana tämän katsominen teki enemmän pahaa kuin sata suolistus/kurmotus/maahantulitusleffaa yhteensä. Vilahtavien opusten nimikkeiden katselu on kiintoisaa. Hienoimpia kohtauksia puolestaan ovat Dali-kirjan sivujen fläpättely pyromaanien toimien edetessä - surrealistinen dystopia-kuvahan kyseessä on - ja kelkkansa kääntäneen palomiehen tuhotessa liekinheittimellään käärmettä uinuttaneen sängyn ja aivopesua tarjoavan telkkarin. The future kind of sucks. (355 movies items)

"Reason for the future sucking: Books are burned, by an anti book type government, if you own a book, you get sent to a mental hospital. Year it takes place: Unknown."

A good movie

“To be honest, even though I have heard about this very famous book, I have actually never read it and the main reason I wanted to check this movie was above all because it was directed by François Truffaut, one of the greatest French directors ever. This movie was a huge step for Truffaut as it would be his first (and only) English speaking production. On top of that, he was working with the lovely and very talented Julie Christie which made the whole thing even more intriguing. Eventually, the whole thing was not bad at all but it didn't turn out be one of Truffaut’s best movies, I’m afraid. First of all, he admitted himself that he never really cared about science-fiction as a genre so you might wonder if he was really the best director for this material. Furthermore, he barely mast” read more
