Review

Thoughts before I watched this. 1. What could be more horrifying or thrilling than trying to survive Mother Earth? 2. The cast here is quite well put together. 3. I almost always get a kick out of survival types of movies. 4. This should be much more realistic than Vertical Limit was. 5. It's directed by Baltasar Kormakur who did 2 Guns (which had a lot of comedy to it) and Contraband so this seem... read more

A competent disaster movie

"We don't need competition between people. There is competition between every person and this mountain. The last word always belongs to the mountain."The 1996 Mount Everest Disaster has been covered in books and documentaries, but 2015's Everest is the first major motion picture to dramatise the event. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns, Contraband), this is a damn good disaster movie imbued ... read more

A good movie

In my opinion, Baltasar Kormákur has a rather mixed track-record as a director but this movie sounded really intriguing and, on top of that, they managed to get a impressive cast for this movie. Anyway, it was a really ambitious project and it thought that most of it worked pretty well. Indeed, I have always been fascinated with movies dealing with climbing, it is probably due to the fact that I'... read more

Bml93's Film Experiences for 2017: First Half (72 movies items)

" The ensemble cast of Everest is rather large, and for the most part, we get to know and care about most of them. This causes us to have an emotional connection to the film and what we're being shown as it ventures into its tragic and disastrous third act. It's not a feel-good film. It's emotionally effective and satisfying, on top of being visually stunning. Which is essential when making a film about Mount Everest. There is nothing that breaks new ground here and I don't really think I would "

"Great cast that gets stuck on the mountain. And the weather with Everest are really scary combination in this. "

" 7.7/10 Rather different than Krakauer's take on the perilous adventure. Surprisingly filled with realistic drama and trauma considering the very Hollywood cast."

2015 Movies - Worst to Best IMO... (60 movies items)

"Just plain gripping. Might not shine like a "Citizen Kane", but more honest than most Hollywood productions. Has one on the edge of their seat all the way through even if they do know what happens in the end. I've had relatives who have suffered frost-bite/gangrene the way Josh Brolin's character does in the film, in real life. It's just as excruciating (and hard-to-stomach) as the way the film depicts it."

A good movie

“In my opinion, Baltasar Kormákur has a rather mixed track-record as a director but this movie sounded really intriguing and, on top of that, they managed to get a impressive cast for this movie. Anyway, it was a really ambitious project and it thought that most of it worked pretty well. Indeed, I have always been fascinated with movies dealing with climbing, it is probably due to the fact that I'm afraid of heights but, even so, there something actually spellbinding to see some people risking their life just to get on the top of a mountain. Maybe there is also a little bit of sadism involved as well. Anyway, I especially enjoyed the realistic approach they chose for this movie but I'm afraid it never reached the level of 'Touching the Void', still by far the best movie in this genre.
