Has aged a lot since I saw it in sensurround in seismic Lima. Now we know too much of siesmic prevention and effects too swallow the elevator scene and others. The miscast of Lorne Greene as Ava's father is compensated by casting of good guys Nolan, George Kennedy, Barry Sullivan. I expected more suspense around the dam.

Filmsite's Greatest Disaster Film Scenes (107 movies items)

"The scenes of the crumbling destruction of Los Angeles by a powerful earthquake were accompanied by the first use of low-frequency bass rumbling Sensurround ("You'll FEEL it as well as see it!") (responsible for the film's only competitive Academy Award Oscar win: Best Sound) and quite impressive special effects. Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing. It also won a Special Achievement Award for Visual Effects. The Universal f"

13 Horrifically Misjudged Movie Taglines (13 movies items)

"Tagline: An Event… They were obviously shooting for slick and dramatic whilst also trying to build hype with this downright insane attempt at marketing Earthquake as the event movie to beat down all other event movies, but why didn’t they just make the tagline “The Event” or something instead? “An Event” implies that it’s just, you know, an event, like popping to the shops, or taking a sh*t. It’s an earthquake for God’s sake, not a Bar Mitzvah that you’re not really too both"

thescriptlab's Top 10 Best or Worst Film Gimmicks (10 movies items)

" Specifically developed for the 1974 disaster film Earthquake, Universal Studios pioneered a sound technique that would enhance the audience's audio experience during film screenings. They called it Sensurround - a system that worked by adding extended-range bass for sound effects through a huge, low-frequency speaker system. It was used with only four films: Earthquake (1974), Midway (1976), Rollercoaster (1977), and Saga of a Star World (1978). Sensurround was actually quite popular with audie"
