Description

Bram Stoker's Dracula

Bram Stoker's Victorian proto-Goth vampire lore-filled novel gets the romantic theatrical fantasy treatment courtesy of The Godfather visionary. Winona Ryder brought the script to Coppola as a peace offering for dropping out of The Godfather, Pt. III, and he let his imagination and visual referencing take hold and run for miles. This is my favorite adaptation of the book for several reasons -- it is the most faithful despite adding a sub-plot, it is visually stunning, and its operatic pitch and surrealist leanings make the story and movie more engaging. Eiko Ishioka is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite costume designer because of this film (Colleen Atwood and Edith Head being a close second and third). But it's not without its problems though. great storyline

This is one of the cooler version of Dracula that I've seen. The story of Vlad and that blood-red armor makes a great visual for the makings of his slip into darkness. Gary Oldman is great in that part, being able to play the proper piece as well as the raving lunatic, and everywhere in-between.
