Meandering yet extremely tense

"This one who's blind. She's the one that can see."

Despite being decades old, Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now remains an uncompromisingly honest and staggeringly evocative motion picture which tackles the mysteries of life, death, fear, hope, love and grief. The movie stems from the pen of English writer Daphne du Maurier, whose works of literature are a rich source for filmmakers - ... read more

Rewards close watching

This a film that requires, but rewards, close watching. A film really about coincidence and fate, about the significance of little things in the greater course of lives, and whether, with hindsight, events are predestined or, well, just accidental. The suspense almost killed me, so many layers, so many twists, so much fun trying to piece the puzzle together. And when it does come together at the e... read more

didnt really enjoy it yeah I understood what the film was trying to do but the majority of the film is Donald Sutherland walking around a bizarrely quiet Venice - with the occasional bizarre event (sort of) happening. Worth a go - but dont expect too much.

John and Laura Baxter are living in Venice when they meet a pair of elderly sisters, one of whom claims to be psychic. She insists that she sees the spirit of the Baxters' daughter, who recently drowned. Laura is intrigued, but John resists the idea. He, however, seems to have his own psychic flashes, seeing their daughter walk the streets in her red cloak, as well as Laura and the sisters on a funeral gondola.

Miika's Movie Diary - 2017 (193 movies items)

"14.8, PC Parhaimmillaan aavemaisen tunnelman omaava kummitustarina, joka toimii hyvin myös draamana. Pientä jumittelua esiintyi joko pääkopassani tai televisioruudussa. Loppukohtaus on tyylikäs ja kuumottava, ja olisinkin toivonut samanlaista fiilinkiä useammin tämän parituntisen aikana."

PopMatter's Essential Film Performances - 2010 (50 movies items)

"FROM PAGE TO SCREEN Donald Sutherland “Nothing is what it seems”, John Baxter (Sutherland) says absently to his wife at the beginning of Nicholas Roeg’s supernatural thriller about a couple grappling with the death of a child. Despite evidence to the contrary that accumulates as the film progresses—the warnings of a blind woman who claims to have seen the spirit of the dead daughter, Baxter’s own visions—Baxter refuses to give up his belief in an explicable world. This could be a po"

"First Watched 9/10/2016 A very interesting, stylized, and different film that really does pull one in. However, it might have its own head a bit too far up its a$$ in its own style at times and that might take some people out of it at times. "

50 Great Movies That Were Not Nominated For Any Os (50 movies items)

"The 1970s were the most open-minded period in Academy history, but only up to a point. Nicolas Roeg’s wrenching, terrifying, sexually-charged thriller about two grieving parents (Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie) in Venice after the death of their child, didn’t receive a single nomination, in a year when “The Exorcist” and “Cries And Whispers” were up for Best Picture, and “Last Tango In Paris” for Best Director — despite the film picking up seven BAFTA nominations at the s"
