Well, i just had a kick against this movie :D
I heard about this movie so many times, and all these comments were great about it. And when it's like that, you have so high expectations. and then you always have dissappointments. Anyway, it was a little complicated. God, donnie was too stupid and i just did not like the way he acts :d i did not like any character in this movie. I really don't understand what people find in this movie. But you know, it's all about style.

I Don't Think So.

A "6" is just above average in my book, bordering mediocre and not very good. I am not a very strict film rater, But this film is probably a very low "6" extremely close to a "5". I guess I am with the few people that didn't think very highly of this film. I thought of it to be rather ridiculous. The plot was pointless, and had no reason for occurring. A boy that is told what to do by a demonic bunny rabbit? I don't think so. That's not even the worst aspect of this film. The way the story is portrayed is stupid, and makes no sense. One second I am watching something, and the next it completely switches. I must admit though, the acting from Jake was great, and I also highly enjoyed several other scenes of the film. "Donnie Darko" isn't my cup of tea, though it is not a bad film....Read more

"....I have reached the end of your book and... there are so many things that I need to ask you. Sometimes I'm afraid of what you might tell me. Sometimes I'm afraid that you'll tell me that this is not a work of fiction. I can only hope that the answers will come to me in my sleep. I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to." Donnie Darko is a modern masterpiece of a film, when I started watching it I expected it to be good, but no where near as great as it turned out to be. It is dark, humorous, Intriguing and captivating from the moment it starts until it's mysterious end. It is completely original and creative, it blends all of the elements that I would want to see in a movie and does it magnificently ...Read more

I guess we should all stop reviewing things on listal after all. We can just look at the IMDb ratings instead.

I think it's quite unfair to say people are being 'OVERLY' critical. When you see nothing in a film that inspires or rubs off on you, what are you supposed to do? See what everyone else thinks of it and put that as your own rating? I'm looking at the reviews other people have given it and seen no reasons as to why they like it. Only one person has given positive reasons; It's been suggested that it has a great soundtrack and that I need to be on medication to enjoy it. Fair enough, maybe that's why I missed out.

One of my favorites...

I can see why people don't like it I guess, maybe they just have never been on any kind of meds. Even I had to say the first time I saw it I was like wtf... but after it sank in, and after I watched it again I was hooked. Donnie is such a complex character in this. It's like a modern day Catcher in the Rye. Not to mention, the soundtrack is also excellent.

sheesh

so many harsh 1/10 critiques, I find that puzzling.

but once all is said and done, its still 8.30/10 out of nearly 100,000 IMDB votes, and a solid 7.9+ on listal, so it's safe to say all those OVERLY degative 1/10 'reviews' on here are clearly the minority of viewers.

This film has caused the suicides of several thousand honest, hard working, movie loving, Nuns.

Not because of any message it gave out, but because it is just that mundane, awful and over rated it forced them to believe that no God could allow such a boring film to be created.

The director of this "film" is now on Americas most wanted list for crimes against humanity.

A Film For Fools

*Yawn*

What a snooze fest. I've had naps more productive than this film. It tries to have a philosophy when its clearly mundane and ordinary. I hope somebody lost their job over this so the footsteps can never be re-trod in.

The whole plot was pointless, it literally makes iotself redundant making the whole thing a waste of time. Yes, its weird but that shouldn't be enough for critical acclaim! Majority of the characters just seem so phoney and fake with no real intention of being memorable.

Jake Gyllenhaal is a terrible actor. I'm amazed that he still weasels his way into Hollywood. Him AND his sister need to get a career like a crash test dummy or mugasaurus. I'd gladly drop a plane on their Hollywood Home.

The most overrated film ever made? Probably. One of the most uninspiring, pretentious and unneccessarily complicated pieces of film I've ever seen. I can not believe this holds a place on the IMDb top 250 films. Watch this at your peril.

About as scintillating as watching paint dry.

I purchased this on DVD for £3 and it's one of the blackholes of my collection.

Changed the image

I hope it's alright with everyone that I changed the image from the DVD cover to the Movie Poster. I think the evil bunny is better represented there. I find the DVD cover a bit odd, almost like 5 heads floating around an outline of a bunny. The movie poster has all the faces blended into the bunny, and is a lot more eye-catching, especially when reduced to a small thumbnail.
