"ATTICA! ATTICA....!"

I love LOVE this movie. The tension & diasterous desperation of Dog Day begins & ends with Al's depiction of John Wojtowicz. Watching him trying to salvage the failed robbery attempt, you can just feel the downhill fatal end result oozing out of Pacino's character before it ever occurs. For me, this is the real start of Al's explosive charisma that's he's become famous for, but before it evolved into the caricature of himself that it is now.

Nearly Flawless Classic.

"Dog Day Afternoon" is a nearly flawless classic that combines humor, drama, and a little action into one big masterpiece. In my opinion it is one of Al Pacino's best films ever. "It started out as a simple bank robbery on a calm afternoon day in New York, and turned into a chaotic circus for everyone to see." This film tells the true story of a huge and rather comedic bank robbery gone wrong, and lasting for a whole two days. Al Pacino plays the psycho yet harmless criminal Sonny Wortzik. The reason I say harmless is because he is actually an extremely friendly person in the film, and doesn't actually harm anyone, which makes him unique and an even better character. He partners up with his best friend Sal (John Cazale), the paranoid yet dedicated counterpart to Sonny. They were both...Read more

Sheer brilliance.

Films like this reaffirm my faith in cinema. It is without a doubt one of Al Pacino's least recognised film roles, but nevertheless, one of his most endearing and brilliant. Dog Day Afternoon recreates the true events of a bank robbery that occurred in August, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York City. Pacino plays Sonny, the brains of what turns out to be a very inept organisation of thieves who raid their local bank. The plan immediately begins to collapse when the youngest accomplice breaks down and asks Sonny to leave the gang. During the heist, it emerges that the bank is not actually holding much money in the safe, resulting in a very small haul for the thieves. Upon trying to leave the building, they are confronted with New York's finest, resulting in an epic stand off that is now the stu...Read more
