Sheer brilliance.

Films like this reaffirm my faith in cinema. It is without a doubt one of Al Pacino's least recognised film roles, but nevertheless, one of his most endearing and brilliant.

Dog Day Afternoon recreates the true events of a bank robbery that occurred in August, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York City. Pacino plays Sonny, the brains of what turns out to be a very inept organisation of thieve... read more

Nearly Flawless Classic.

"Dog Day Afternoon" is a nearly flawless classic that combines humor, drama, and a little action into one big masterpiece. In my opinion it is one of Al Pacino's best films ever.

"It started out as a simple bank robbery on a calm afternoon day in New York, and turned into a chaotic circus for everyone to see."

This film tells the true story of a huge and rather comedi... read more

Two amateur robbers, and the third afraid, broke into a bank. The thing crooked by error handling. And Sonny (Al PAcino) with Sal (John Cazale) attempt to escape to the lowest possible price. The buzz that erupts works like the rain for the snails, magnetizing a crowded bunch. In the presence of the police first arrive the media. Followed by ordinary citizens, in the human voyeurism, prefer the li... read more

A New York man and two accomplices are besieged in a bank with all the bank employees after his attempt to rob enough money to pay for his male lover's sex change operation goes awry. What results is a two day media circus in which his private life and the humiliation of the police is laid bare for the whole city.

My 25 Favorite Movies of All Time (25 movies items)

"My mom suggested I see this movie and after seeing it, it is now in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Sometimes your parents know what they are talking about! Al Pacino plays a bank robber that ends up catching the media's attention and becoming somewhat of a celebrity. This is Pacino's best performance to date and he is playing the right mix of nervous, manic energy and menace. I also love John Cazale in this as he plays the most lovable idiot in the world. This film also really captures th"

Movie Diary 2014 (30 movies items)

"Someone might find this stupid but I've never really even noticed Dog Day Afternoon before actually watching it. It was only after rewatching the Godfather trilogy I decided to try to dig into Al Pacinos filmography a little more, since he is a rather charming fella and a great actor. So basically I started Dog Day Afternoon without even knowing the plot that well. I knew there was a bank robbery that is based on real events but I never checked out the whole story. And man, the film indeed did"

“This film has interested me for a really really long time now, I mean really long, like since when I was just a kid for some reason, and for some other odd reason I've never gotten around to watching it until now. I've got to say, though, I was somewhat dissapointed. The first half of the film was excellent. Despite some flaws in accordance to almost all of the characters' motives, which unfortunately do stay somewhat consistent throughout the entire film, the first half was filled with top-notch and exhilarating thrills with amazing performances from both Cazale and Pacino. Right from the beginning the film gets going, but it seems to stop right about halfway through. For some reason, I felt the film get really sort of dry and dull for about thirty minutes or so, and it made me lose a hel” read more
