"You know what I hate about the Americans? Everything. Especially cowboys."

When it comes to the Die Hard franchise, the soup has already been pissed in. The original trilogy is close to perfect, yet 2007's Live Free or Die Hard tarnished the brand name, with new helmer Len Wiseman mounting an abominable PG-13 distraction that doesn't walk or talk like a Die Hard movie at all. At last, they finally managed to really mess up a 'Die Hard' flick... Indeed, it is easily the most disappointing entry in this franchise. Even the 4rth installment was actually rather fun, especially compared to this final feature. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this but one of my best buddies is a fan of Bruce Willis and Nick, my step-son, saw recently all the previous installments s... read more

" The Ups: Hand-held cameras help the action flow better than if it had been static. The story starts interesting with a political prisoner in Russia who the government wants their hands on (which feel relevant in these days)... The Downs: ... but it all falls apart with the "surprise" twist close to the end of the film. The movie also seems to be on an entire different budget than all the other films and have a "direct to video" quality over it - with dark corridors, uninspired action sequence"

It was awful from beginning to end and at no point felt like a Die Hard movie. Say what you will about Die Hard 4, at least Bruce Willis looked like he cared about the film and really brought out his John McClane character, here he just don't give a shit. And why should he with a horrible script like this. This movie is more focused on his son and his CIA work than John himself. He is the sidekick in his own movie. That is something that should never happen in a fucking Die Hard movie. This felt more ” read more

"A Good Day to Die Hard" (2013)

“FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Well, it's that time of year again. :) The time when I start renting three new releases a week from Xtra-vision to catch up on whatever I missed in the cinema during the first few months of the year.

The first of this week's trio is A Good Day to Die Hard, the fifth instalment in the franchise. I actually went back and watched the first four again in preparation for this one. :) So I'm left in absolutely no doubt that to say this is by far the worst of the series is a massive understatement!

As the series progressed, it increasingly lost sight of the vulnerability that made the character of John McClane so appealing to begin with. By this point, he doesn't seem to care about anything anymore.

But that's not the only reason this does” read more

The original trilogy is close to perfect, yet 2007's Live Free or Die Hard tarnished the brand name, with new helmer Len Wiseman mounting an abominable PG-13 distraction that doesn't walk or talk like a Die Hard movie at all. And now we have the fifth film, 2013's A Good Day to Die Hard, which is back in R-rated territory for another round of pandemonium. Written by Skip Woods (Wolverine, The A-Team), this Die Hard outing is not on the same level as the original trilogy, but it's a step in the right direction for the ailing series. It's fun but ultimately inconsequential, too slight at 97 minutes and tremendously silly. Neverthe” read more

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this but one of my best buddies is a fan of Bruce Willis and Nick, my step-son, saw recently all the previous installments so we went to see this the three of us which was pretty neat. To be honest, they were actually a couple of good ideas. Indeed, it was pretty cool to see McClane and his son in action, they made a great couple, and Jai Courtney really impressed me. Indeed, physically, he looked as if he could have been made Bruce Willis'son and he gave a decent performance against one of the biggest action stars eve” read more

“RATING: 4.0

Ok this movie had so much hype going into it and it did not deliver at all. I mean this movie was such a let down and if im being honest with myself the fourth film is better then this the one. The script was just awful and all over the place the editing was just as bad as the dark knight rises i didn't think in this age that we can have such blockbuster films being handled by people that clearly can not do their job the. The film has some good mindless action that seemed to go one forever to a point to were it's like ok lets get back to some story even with how weak it is.

Also Who was the main bad guy in this movie i remember all the other movies had one i guess this one they just have Russian bad guys sure... ok that will do i guess. The guy that they ” read more

" Director: John Moore Cast: Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Cole Hauser, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Amaury Nolasco Plot: John McClane and his son take on local forces in Russia. Australian Release Date: February 14th Cal's Thoughts:I love the first three Die Hard movies, though I found the fourth Die Hard disappointing due to the PG-13 rating and the inescapable "Hollywood" vibe which pervaded the material. I'm looking forward to this on the basis of it being a Die Hard movie, but it's a tad difficult"

"Yeah, a fifth film is coming. Even though I'll check it out sooner or later, I can't really call myself excited. The sequels have distanced themselves from the original idea - they have abandonded small environments and simple setting, which created suspense and thus a hell of an atmosphere - in favor of ridiculous CGI stunts, making the events more and more implausible. A skyscraper, an airport, a city, several states... and now the story goes worldwide? Please, stick to the original formula, t"
