"...bring your guitars."

I managed to watch this film three times in two days this weekend. I can't believe just how fantastic it is, I had to bump it up a notch from my original 8/10 rating. I'm not sure what is stopping me giving it a straight 10 actually.

This film has everything. Stylish violence, fantastic gunfights, a legendary cast and potent eye candy to boot. This is one of Robert Rodriguez's earli... read more

"It's strange how pulling a trigger is easier than playing the guitar. Easier to destroy, than to create."

After the unanticipated success of Robert Rodriguez's little known movie El Mariachi it was pure fate that a sequel would be instigated. In this case, Desperado is a reworking of the original film while also acting as a continuation of the story. El Mariachi was made on an asto... read more

Bless Me, For I Have Killed Quite A Few Men.

Over the top awesome flick! Antonio Banderas plays El Mariachi; a man looking for not only work to fit his talent to entertainer, but a man who calls himself Bucho. This man took what he held dear right in front of him; a former girlfriend and put a decent size hole in his hand as well. Now, the legend of the Mariachi has come true and to a filthy mexican bar near you! After several shootouts left... read more

An average movie

“Even though Robert Rodriguez definitely got noticed thanks to his directing debut 'El Mariachi', it is actually really with this sequel/remake that he eventually became really noticed by the mainstream audience. I remember it very well, I even saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released. Basically, even though the budget was still rather modest (approximately $7 million), it was still 1000 times the amount of money Rodriguez spent to make his previous directing effort. Well, to be honest, even though it was a solid action flick, I don’t think the plot was anything really original or amazing. Still, in spite of its flaws, it was a very well made and entertaining action movie. On top of that, not only it introduced Robert Rodriguez, it also helped Antonio Banderas and th” read more

30 From 95: My Favorite Films From 1995 (30 movies items)

"Robert Rodriguez's "El Mariachi" goes from micro-budget indie to macro-budget hit as the traveling gunslinging guitarrero goes from looking like a Mexican everyman to looking like a Spaniard, well, Antonio Banderas. Who, even speaking as a straight-up hetero, you gotta admit.... is a really good looking guy. Which is probably the main reason why the gal that the hero gets in this flick is played by the always insanely-beauteous Salma Hayek. Kinda makes me wish I was good-looking. Maybe then, I'"
