I remember seeing the trailer for this and knowing that this was definitely something I wanted to see. The cast is amazing and the characters are extraordinary. It's good to see that not all of the characters are exactly as their first impression gives. We have a little bit of everything here. It's satirical and has some laugh out loud moments. It's a refreshing way to look at a serious subject. O... read more

A satire about being a black face in a very white place. DEAR WHITE PEOPLE follows the stories of four black students at an Ivy League college where a riot breaks out over a popular 'African American' themed party thrown by white students. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, the film explores racial identity in 'post-racial' America while weaving a universal story of forging one's unique path in the world.

Moviewatcher122's 2017 Film Diary: Jan & Feb (28 movies items)

"February 11 "Do you seriously think you can win?" "Troy, we live in a world where there's a Big Momma's House *3*. I don't think I have a chance in hell." Oddly enough, the controversy of the Netflix teaser for the series based on this film is what got me to check it out. For a movie that had a lot going for it, I was kind of underwhelmed as I didn't like it as much as I probably should've. Its biggest strength is the characters. Pretty much every character has their share of flaws and no on"

BradWesley123's Movie Journal- April 2015 (23 movies items)

" DVD- 1hr. 48min. First Viewing Any white person out there put off by the film's title, fear not. This isn't a persecution of one race; instead it's a smart, funny and searing dissection of race itself. The script is superb, with so many wonderful touches, and the cast routinely excellent, especially Tessa Thompson in a genuine breakout role. "
