A good movie

Since it was the last movie directed by Terrence Malick which I hadn’t seen yet, I was rather dying to watch this flick. Unfortunately, pretty much like ‘Badlands’, this movie didn’t quite fulfill my huge expectations. I mean, I did like it, that’s for sure, but I can’t say I was really blown away by the whole thing. Indeed, I didn’t really care about the plot (I’m pretty sure Mali... read more

Description: Bill and Abby, a young couple who to the outside world pretend to be brother and sister are living and working in Chicago at the beginning of the century. They want to escape the poverty and hard labour of the city and travel south. Together with the girl Linda (who acts as the narrator in the movie) they find employment on a farm in the Panhandle, Texas. When the harvest is over the young, rich and handsome farmer invites them to stay because he has fallen in love with Abby. When Bill and Abby discover that the farmer is seriously ill and has only got a year left to live they decide that Abby will accept his wedding proposal in ... (more)

1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die (2016) (403 movies items)

" Notes: Unfortunately, pretty much like ‘Badlands’, this movie didn’t quite fulfill my huge expectations. I mean, I did like it, that’s for sure, but I can’t say I was really blown away by the whole thing. Indeed, I didn’t really care about the plot (I’m pretty sure Malick didn’t care for the plot either, if there was any) and I also didn’t care much about the characters either. It is probably a results of the choice made by Terrence Malick to have the story told by a young ch"

Watched films in 2017 (39 movies items)

"5.5. DVD Uusintakatselu, puolikas pois. Tällainen suht suoraviivainen kolmiodraama ei ole tarinana sieltä mielenkiintoisimmasta päästä, mutta toimii yllättävän hyvin loppua kohden. Tarina on sikäli toissijainen, koska visuaalisestihan tää on pakahduttavan kaunis, varmasti yksi upeimmista koskaan. Richard Geren pällistely ei vakuuta, joskaan ei ärsytäkään kuten tavallisesti. Todella kiivaan heinäsirkka-suurpalo-hätävarjelunliioittelu-kiinniotto -jakson jälkeen on varsinainen"

Moviewatcher122's 2016 Film Diary: December (11 movies items)

"December 5 "Nobody's perfect. There was never a perfect person around. You just have half-angel and half-devil in you." Ahh, Terrence Malick. A director that I've always had mixed feelings about. Pretty much all of his films I've seen so far are ones that I've had different opinions on. The Tree of Life was average, Badlands was good, but not great and The Thin Red Line was really good. This one falls under the same boat as the the latter film. I liked this one since it wasn't really style o"

ALL-TIME 100 Revisited (20 movies items)

"The mystery man of serious cinema, Terrence Malick has not spoken in public for decades — and then only to students at the Paris university where he taught in the ’80s. When The Tree of Life, just his fifth feature in a 40-year career, won the Palme d’Or at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, he was again absent. A philosophy major at Harvard and a Rhodes scholar at Oxford, Malick might have much to say about his rapturous, delphic movies. But he’s kept mum, so it’s left to his admirers to "

20 Classic Films Not Nominated For Best Picture (20 movies items)

"If you knew that only two Terrence Malick films had been nominated for Best Picture, you might easily hazard a guess that "Days of Heaven" his gorgeous, magic-hour tale of destructive love and locust attacks, might be one. But in fact that honor (unconverted in both cases) belongs only to "The Thin Red Line" and "The Tree of Life" — both of which also netted Malick his only Directing nods, as well as a Screenplay nomination for the latter. And it wasn't that this elegiac drama, the story of a "
