It's my job to explore new films that I don't think I would like. This is rated quite high on IMDB. but I would not rate it that high. However, it has a new all star girl cast which are brilliant by the way, but I could not delve into the film because it quite bored me. not much going on, I THINK THE PLOT AND WHAT IT WAS ABOUT IS FANTASTIC.
In Whit Stillman's offbeat comedy, three pretty friends plan to use music, dance and perfume to brighten the lives of their fellow college students. But before long, the girls find themselves busy dealing with problems of their own.

"Damsels in Distress" is a very dry comedy. Which is not really a type of film that I enjoy but this certainly hit a mark with me. I think Whit Stillman managed to capture actual conversations or ideas that I personal heard people say and managed to make those casual remarks something quite absurd.
And... yes... now I am going to actually have to track down and watch other films from Whit Stillman. I have sort of been avoiding him for some reason. So, with this film tha"
"Director Whit Stillman constructs a collegiate world just far enough removed from reality to give this movie an agreeably quirky sheen, while staying rooted in "everyday concerns" with enough loyalty as to allow its characters to earn our recognition and goodwill. Whip-smart from its surface down to its core and highly original. So many indie movies is this vein wish they could achieve the fresh quirk and intelligence that this film exudes, but so few bother to put the work in.
Damsels in Distress plays like a coming of age social satire crossed with Jane Austen updated for the 21st century but it's vision and methods are so uniformly pronounced and entirely their own that it almost bleeds into fantasy. It's a real treat of contemporary cinema that wi"
