A good movie

Since it is a rather obscure feature, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the damned thing but since I’m a huge fan of Roman Polanski, I was really eager to check it out. Basically, a year before,  Polanski just made ‘Repulsion’ with Catherine Deneuve. This movie turned out to be Polanski's first genuine masterpiece and, as a follow-up, he would make this flick starring Deneuve's old... read more

Psycho comic thriller in attractive space (the ebb tide that isolates the fortress, excellent), Lione Stander great comic playing straight.

Description: The fact that there isn't a single likeable character in Cul de Sac does not diminish its artistic value in the least. Ageing, furtively kinky Donald Pleasence is married to sexy young Francoise Dorleac. The couple's hermitlike tranquility is shattered when wounded gangsters Jack MacGowan and Lionel Stander invade their home and hold them hostage. As Dorleac urges her tremulous husband to do something, the two criminals begin behaving in a fashion that can only inadequately be described as eccentric. Drawing upon two of Polanski's favorite themes-isolation and latent insanity--Cul de Sac actually improves upon each viewing, assu ... (more)

"1.2. Cul-De-Sacin premissi on oikeastaan aika tavanomainen - vieras elementti asettuu taloksi vakiintuneeseen tilanteeseen (tässä tapauksessa huonotapainen rikollinen porvarilliselta vaikuttavan pariskunnan linnakkeeseen) ja sitten katsoja seuraa kulissien hajoamista. Pariskunta ei reagoi oletetulla tavalla kidnappaukseen, vaan Knife in the Waterin tapaan elokuva saavuttaa pointtinsa kolmikon psykologisen kissa-hiiri -leikin kautta. Erityisesti Cul-De-Sacista muodostuu Donald Pleasencen esitt"

A good movie

“Since it is a rather obscure feature, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the damned thing but since I’m a huge fan of Roman Polanski, I was really eager to check it out. Basically, a year before,  Polanski just made ‘Repulsion’ with Catherine Deneuve. This movie turned out to be Polanski's first genuine masterpiece and, as a follow-up, he would make this flick starring Deneuve's older sister, Françoise Dorléac. You might have never heard of her but, in the 60’s,  she was actually, just like her sister, a very talented actress but she tragically died in a car accident a year after this movie was released. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, it is definitely one of the weirdest movies made by Polanski and, like most of his movie, it was obviously not really oriented ” read more
