Though I walk through the valley of shadow and death, I shall fear no evil; for lord John Matrix will protect me; his big fucking guns and huge muscles, they comfort me.
In the beginning, there was the masterpiece known as Commando. And the God of '80s Action Excess did look upon it and see that it was good. And lo did Arn... read more
Commando is the archetype of the all action hollywood blockbuster. The acting it laughable, the dialogue - cringeworthy. There are more explosions and gunfights than you can shake a stick at. The protagonist is Mr Universe, his nemesis, a camp, chain-mail wearing australian.
This film has some of the funniest and most memorable lines of any action film and the final scene registers ... read more
This film is the basis for over the top, more bodies than bullets action films. Although there was a bad following of the amount of crap in this particular genre, its the best of the bunch.
I wouldn't go as far to say it's like Crank and that its mocking itself but you can't help but think the writers were having a laugh when they wrote ... read more

You know why the Wachowski Bros. movie Matrix is so popular? Because of John Matrix's permission!
I'll let that joke describe Commando.
Commando deserves an honourable spot on my list. It launched my interest in action movies to start. To be precise, if that wasn't crazy enough, I'm not kidding, it started my interest in movies in general after a few years of indifference. It was, and still is, so over the top macho bullshit it's impossible not to enjoy it. And it's aware of it. Commando has i"

"John Matrix vs John Rambo
John Matrix being a commando and all, would be a great fight between him and John Rambo. Both men who are soldiers but who would win. John Matrix being a commando and John Rambo being a Vietnam War soldier. Would be a great fight between the two."
"One-liners
What would a true 80s action flick be without one-liners?
Getting killed is nothing, that's what happens, but to hear a wooden insult for final words must be the ultimate humiliation! How can you have your life flash before your eyes when some cock-a-douche stops your train of thought with "Stick around!" or stuff like that?
I'm sure Saint Peter himself at the Pearly Gates feels sorry for you for dying like that and gives you a foot rub just to make it easier in the afterlife.

"First viewing - May 11th
AKA Ahnuld kills everything. This movie was a fun watch, but the plot was obvious from the moment it was laid out. There's never a moment where I doubted Arnie's character would kill the bad guys & save his daughter, and so really you just sit back & watch the carnage. So it's entertaining, but definitely nothing essential unless big dumb action movies are your thing.
Currently streaming on Netflix"
"Why is this film my favorite action movie ever? I've actually been trying my best to answer that and I think I've found it. It's not the action or the story, it's just the most enjoyable film experience I've probably ever had. It's not my favorite movie, it's pretty much a guilty pleasure. It makes me laugh and laugh. The action tries way to hard, but I still love it. This is the most quotable film of all time as well. Arnold gives us so many great and hilarious one-liners in this action gem ful"

"9.4.
35MM, Lahden Kino Iiris
Rewatch, ***½ - ****½
Ase"

"The big battle scenes are especially disappointing.
- D.J.R. Bruckner, New York Times
Lots of machine-gunfire, explosions and disposable khaki-clad extras, as you'd expect.
- Trevor Johnston, Time Out"

The Ups: Hugely entertaining with intentional humor. Arnie's interrogation of a bad guy over a cliff always make me crack up in laughter. The best one-man slaughter machine action movie. Great over-the-top villains. A unbelievable cute Alyssa Milano.
The Downs: It is perfect 80s action movie. It's impossible to hate."

"Commando meidän, joka olet taivaissa.
Pyhitetty olkoon Sinun nimesi.
Tulkoon sinun valtakuntasi.
Tapahtukoon sinun tahtosi,
myös maan päällä niin kuin taivaassa.
Anna meille tänä päivänä
meidän jokapäiväinen testosteronimme.
Ja anna meille meidän syntimme anteeksi,
niin kuin mekin anteeksi annamme niille,
jotka eivät Commandoa ole todistaneet.
Äläkä saata meitä kiusaukseen,
vaan päästä meidät pahasta.
Sillä Sinun on iso pyss"
