A good movie

“‘A bout de souffle’ is and will remain one of my favorite movies forever and I have been following Godard ever since his masterpiece really blew me away but, unfortunately, no one of his movies have reached this level of awesomeness, at least not in my opinion. The point is that, pretty soon in his career, his movies started to get pretty cryptic really soon and become harder and harder to follow and, nowadays, except for a few die-hard fans, we all pretty much agree that his work has become some incomprehensible pseudo-intellectual and political mix, a mix I always had a hard time to appreciate. This movie is a pretty good example. I mean, it was actually quite intriguing but it was so hard to follow, I can’t say I really loved the damned thing. Still, it was pretty nice to see the ” read more

My Tedious and Asinine 2014 Movie Diary (135 movies items)

" I would never in a million years dare call Godard or his films pretentious, but I'm gonna have to go ahead and call La Chinoise pretentious because IT IS!! It's just a bunch of French students screaming about Marxism, socialism, communism, imperialism, capitalism, etc for an hour and thirty minutes. I guess Godard meant for La Chinoise to be some kind of witty satire on the young political dilettantes of the day, but it fails on many levels because: A. It's too talky. B. It's VERY hard to fo"

"30.10. 2010 "La Chinoise" is a very typical film in Godard's career. It's an essay-like film that focuses on a small group of students who are planning a violent revolution based on Maoist theories. The young revolutionaries express their extreme views, lecture, provoke hatred and demonstrate their vague ideas with different toys they've made. Godard is harsh towards his delusional characters and shows them as they are. Visually this is as impressive as most of the works by the director, and th"

"Suurin osa elokuvan löpinöistä meni kyä pahasti yli mutta loppupeleissä niiden täydellinen sisäistäminen ei liene elokuvan ymmärtämisen kannalta niinkään kriittistä kuin aluksi voisi ymmärtää. Vietnam-osio on yksi Godardin hienoimpia. Anne Wiazemsky on mahtava."
