An adaptation that's part showtunes and part crime story. Don't let the musical numbers fool you; the storyline is pure pulp-y entertainment. It wouldn't have been out-of-place to know that this storyline was really from an old pulp magazine like Black Mask. From the moment Catherine Zeta-Jones prances out to belt "All That Jazz," you can hear her name being inscribed onto the Oscar she would later win. Pity she never delivered another performance as fully realized, or good. Queen Latifah, John C. Reilly, and Richard Gere also deliver award worthy work, and, yet, only Gere didn't get an Oscar nomination out of that group (Latifah and Reilly giving my favorite performances in the film as the sassy lesbian prison matron and a sad sack husband). Zellweger looks the part, and sings ok, but her...Read more

Chicago is one of the best musicals ever.

Richard Gere, Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Queen Latifah give stellar performances, and the music is simply astounding. And the direction is one of the best I've seen.

That's one movie I watch every year :)

This is a great movie. The musical could not have been brought to screen in a better way. The casting was impeccable. For the time you spend watching the movie you are pulled completely into the story.

I think the most entertaining part of this movie, for me personally, was watching Richard Gere doing Cabaret. It's just something you don't expect to see.
It was a fun movie (fun because the dance scenes are catchy and fun to watch) but I only recommend it if you like a bit of a musical, intrigue and can handle Renee Zellweger's horrific acting. Seriously naturally she is a pain with the stupid faces she pulls but imagine her dancing? Makes you want to smack yourself in the face with a frying pan
