Charlie would approve.

My Take: Energetic, mindless summer eye-candy entertainment.

It's easy to smirk or be nit-picky at something quite as silly as a $92 million big-screen version of CHARLIE'S ANGELS. Looking back, its roots date back to a successful yet critically-reviled TV series in the 70's. Bring it here, at our modern period, and be sure to be laughed at. Joel Schumacher did it, in his 1997 mega-... read more

An average movie

Still, I have always had some mixed feelings about the damned thing. Basically, on one hand, it has a rather lame reputation and it is a rather moronic action flick but, on the other hand, I have seen much worse and the over-the-top approach actual... read more

Aspects of this take on the 1970s hit TV series are similar to the original show: Angels Dylan, Natalie and Alex still work for Charlie and interface with Bosley. They still flip their hair, stop traffic with a smile and kick butt. The differences are the unsubtle humor, the martial arts training and the high-tech premise.

Still, I have always had some mixed feelings about the damned thing. Basically, on one hand, it has a rather lame reputation and it is a rather moronic action flick but, on the other hand, I have seen much worse and the over-the-top approach actually had some potential. Indeed, the TV-show was nothing really serious to start with so to have some fun with this concept was not a bad idea. As a result, you get to see Bill Murray who was really fun and the guy was just a perfect choice to play John Bosley. Unfortunately, even though Murray was probably the best thing in this movie, he had apparently a major argument with Lucy Liu during the mak” read more
