Centurion is a supposition in action; a dramatic envisioning of the fate of the Ninth Roman Legion in Caledonia, which has been shrouded in mystery for ages. The theory that 5,000 of Rome's finest soldiers were lost in the mist-shrouded landscape of Caledonia, as they marched forth to put down a Pictish rebellion, is the basis of this incredible film. Yet it takes the hypothesis one step further a... read more
Neil Marshall is one of the rising British directors and something I like about him is that with each movie, he tries something different. This time, it is a peplum and I must say it, it is definitely his best looking movie. I really liked the gritty look and you like can tell that there were no green screens involved which tend to get overused nowadays. The fighting scenes were pretty badass and ... read more

"Watched on the 29th.
Wasn't expecting much due to the ratings, and yet it was far better than they would suggest. Could of easily over looking this, I'm glad I didn't, has some good action and a great cast too.

Centurion is one of the best period-pieces that I've ever seen. Instead of carrying on here about it...I think I'll just write a review and post a link here. ;)

I didn't mind the violence so much but, in contrary to Fortunato, I didn't see what was so amazing about the story.
Anyway, Neil Marshall's directing style is pretty bloody, that's for sure.
All I remember from this film is the sadistic images of violence. I mean, a hit to the head had to show everything blown apart with blood splatter and so on... almost as if that was the sole purpose o

Like I said before, I didn't care much for the story. In my opinion, it was rather pedestrian and pretty predictible.
Still, a part from that, the whole thing looked terrific and there was indeed a v

The theory that 5,000 of Rome's finest soldiers were lost in the mist-shrouded landscape of Caledonia, as they marched forth to put down a Pictish rebellion, is the basis of this incredible film. Yet it takes the hypothesis one step further and centers on the possible survivors of the massacre and their desperate fight, over miles of enemy territory, to reach the safety of Roman-held lands.
Michael Fassbender, Olga Kurylenko, Dominic West, David Morrisey and Liam Cunningham (among others) offer up, possibly, the finest acting in their respective careers. This film is so well done that they had me believing!
I have to disagree with you here. I watched this last night and, I have to say, it is one of the best period-films I've ever seen. Completely engrossing, historically accurate in semblance and style,
