A singer who seemed to attract women in the beginning starts a voyage for an event, that he never reaches. Quite different type of horror, as the horror was created by the inbreeded rednecks who had their own village with strange manners.
Description:A traveling entertainer falls prey to a disturbed recluse in director Fabrice Du Welz's twisted, slow-burn riff on Deliverance and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Having finished his latest performance at a remote retirement home, wandering singer Marc Stevens (Laurent Lucas) packs his gear into his van and sets out towards his next gig. Unfortunately for Marc, the fog-shrouded roads of rural France are more treacherous than he ever anticipated. When his van breaks down in the middle of the night and a skittish local promises to lead him to a nearby inn owned by the eccentric recluse Paul Bartel (Jackie Berroyer), it appears that luck may be on Marc's side and he will be back on the road with the light of the morning sun. This isn't your average bed and breakfast, though, and Bartel certainly isn't the kindly innkeeper he initially appears to be. When Marc's van is set aflame and his increasingly menacing host makes a most disturbing claim, the soft-spoken singer will be forced to fight for his life against not only Bartel, but an entire village of deeply disturbed woodsmen. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi... "Allegory about a flashy male singer whose car breaks down in the sticks (sound familiar?), where he is raped and beaten by a loon who thinks the man is his long lost wife. It gets weirder. Leaves you a little cold, but still worth a look... beware of a scene where a group of men take liberties with a pig...

"The dance scene is obviously the most iconic moment of this movie; it probably says about the villagers more than anything else they'll say or do, and it also says a lot about the purposes and ideas of the author in doing this movie in terms of moods and settings.

""Calvaire" doesn't want to be anguishing or scary, it want to be weird, even disturbing possibly.
While the first part of the movie is alienating showing the bleak, squalid, world the main character live in, the second half of the movie start dropping some weird shit in front of the viewer, but without really exceeding; whenever the contents of the scenes start being really morbid the camera soften up the mood, being more discrete.
There are really nice scenes and moments in this movie, it's we"

"A few days before Christmas, a traveling entertainer is stuck at nightfall in a remote forest village after his van breaks down. He finds an inn and gets a room for the night. The next day, he finds himself in a nightmare that may not end.

"More strange euro horror with a disturbing, surreal, darkly comedic feel. Like the scene below, I still don't know what the fuck was going on there.

Ranskakauhua sillointälläin ihan mukava katsella, koska mukavia yllättäjiä silloin tällöin löytyy ja yleisestikkin taso hieman kovempi, kuin Hollywoodissa. Tällä kertaa kuitenki jouduin karvaasti pettymään. Periaatteessa pätkä on ihan toimivaa trilleriä, mutta kaatuu hieman turhaan sekavuuteensa. Jännitys ei pääse missään vaihessa kunnolla kohoamaan, vaika muutamia ihan onnistuneitakin kohtauksia on. Pääosaa esittävä Lauren Lucas vetää ihan ok roolisuorituksen, mu"
