A good movie

7 months ago at Nov 21 14:30
To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this movie and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. In fact, I even saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released. Anyway, the saddest thing about this movie was that, even though it was maybe not a real masterpiece, it was still one of the most promising directing debuts I have seen and it is a real shame that Vincent ... read more

Description: Writer-director-composer Vincent Gallo and Christina Ricci star in this quirky and deliberately grimy little movie. Gallo plays Billy Brown, recently released from prison and unable to find so much as a decent bathroom in his cold hometown. Billy’s parents are unaware that he’s been locked up; in a pathetic attempt to impress them with how successful he’s become, he hits on the novel plan of kidnapping young dance student Layla (Ricci) and forcing her to play the role of his wife. Billy’s distant—to say the least—parents are played to the hilt by Anjelica Huston and Ben Gazzara, Huston in particular bringing a dement ... (more)

A good movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this movie and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. In fact, I even saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released. Anyway, the saddest thing about this movie was that, even though it was maybe not a real masterpiece, it was still one of the most promising directing debuts I have seen and it is a real shame that Vincent Gallo would pretty much ruin his directing career with his dreadful follow-up, ‘The Brown Bunny’ (I have to admit it, I still haven’t watched it after all these years but I’m really not optimistic). The other sad thing about this movie is that Christina Ricci would never look better but, even though she looked really  lovely back in those day, she would keep losing weight during the follo” read more

30 From 98: My Favorite Films From 1998 (30 movies items)

"Teenage tap dancing student Layla (played by Christina Ricci, who in my personal opinion, looks at her cutest ever in this film) gets kidnapped by Billy, a recently released ex-con. Almost immediately, she finds herself attracted to her captor as he "forces" her to pretend that she is his wife-to-be in order to impress Billy's disassociated parents. And thus a budding dysfunctional relationship gets it's dysfunction off the ground running. Buffalo '66 is an indie flick about a kind of germinal "
