In an era dominated by children's fantasy movies containing special effects that overwhelm instead of enhance, Bridge to Terabithia is a unique movie that celebrates the virtues of imagination, friendship and family. The marketing campaign for Bridge to Terabithia appeared to suggest the film would be just another juvenile fantasy film ala Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter. "She brought you something special when she came here, didn't she? That's what you hold onto. That's how you keep her alive." If I hadn't been given the DVD then I would never have chosen to watch this, It was lucky I got it because wow.. this really surprised me. I expected it to be one of those childish movies, but this is much more. It's emotional, inspiring, sad and pleasing to see. Okay, honestly I hated the look of this movie from seeing the trailer in the cinema. It just looks like another kids Disney movie that I wouldn't like any pretty much waste my time seeing. So from that, I had no intention that I would ever see it.. and somehow I found out the ending, so that made me even more disinclined to see it. I was imagining this film to be perhaps a scaled-back version of 'Chronicles of Narnia' but i found it to be extremely slow, dull, very little and not too impressive special fx, and just too depressing to let my kids see it. it touches on topics such as bullying, failing to live up to father's expectations, financial problems at home, and to top it off, death of a child. This is definitely more of an adult drama than a child-friendly family film. I think it's a case of being marketed to the wrong crowd. I was expecting a fun family adventure with some fantasy thrown in and I got a sap-fest emo-drama.

The soundtrack already sounds dated and daggy, but the rest of the show is well put together. Not all loose ends are tied up, which in some ways is refreshing.

This movie surprised me. It isn't like the previews and I didn't think I would like it because of the previews. I read the book and I didn't remember all the fantasy scenes driving the story like they were showing in the previews. Luckily when I went and saw the movie they didn't really make the film this way. It actually followed the book pretty closely. The movie follows the friendship that develops between the characters and the fantasy world that they create really well. They covered the ending in a way that will require you to need some tissue. It was tastefully done and very emotional. Younger children may not really be ready for this one.
