I'm Sorry, Roger Ebert, But You're Wrong (12 movies items)

"Ebert's Consensus: 2 stars out of 4 Ebert's criticisms of Brazil are pretty vague. He spends the majority of his review discussing the movie in a pretty detached manner, only to say that he had trouble following it and found it pretty grim. Sorry, You're Wrong I'm not sure what movie Ebert was watching, or if he just didn't pay attention. I have watched Brazil a number of times, and have never had trouble following its narrative. And while it is a bit of a grim movie in terms of themes, I've al"

“Ignoring that the fantasy sequences add nothing to the story, this movie needed a mature, professional to edit a good part of it.

Clearly, maker Gilliam fails to get that though you can mock the absurdity of humans acting groups, no one can mock human nature within an individual and hold anyone's interest for long.

While much of the visuals seem interesting, in the end, the movie ends up being little more than the work of a cartoonist who doesn't really understand storytelling, especially dramatic storytelling.” read more

Movie Diary 2012 (551 movies items)

"13.10. Odotetusti parempi kuin muistin, ellei jopa murskaavan kova muistutus unelmien merkityksestä. Samalla tietysti yksi julmimmista komedioista ikinä naurun juuttuessa kurkkuun toinen toistaan räikeämmän yhteiskunnallisen epäkohdan edessä. Elävämmät hetket ovat niin vahvassa kontrastissa niihin nähden, että siinä missä Sam Lowry pääsee hetkeksi irti päin helvettiä järjestäytyneen byrokratian kourasta, vapautuu katsojakin vaihteeksi pingotuksesta. Huumorille pystyy naurama"

"13.10. Vihdoinkin tämä tuli telkkarista katsomiskelpoisessa muodossa eikä MTV3:n croppaamana perspallina. On se visuaalisesti mielipuolisen komea ja sellasta. Oletteko muuten nähneet sellaisen elokuvan kun Hyvät, pahat ja rumat? On meinaan melko hyvä elokuva."

Five Star Movies (165 movies items)

"Another great depiction of future as well as satiric and dry comedy of men getting stuck into the "the system". Orwellian-like manifest against totalitarism and overwhelming red tape. Still having a lot of the aspects from Monty Python era this film might seem to be just an absurd comedy yet being much more than that. Brazil is definitely one of the most horrifying films about future I have seen and probably only better depiction is Orwell's actual novel. "

Roger Ebert didn't like all the Classics (40 movies items)

" His Review : Just as George Orwell's 1984 is an alternate vision of the past, present and future, so "Brazil" is a variation of Orwell's novel. The movie happens in a time and place that seem vaguely like our own, but with different graphics, hardware and politics. Society is controlled by a monolithic organization, and citizens lead a life of paranoia and control. Thought police are likely to come crashing through the ceiling and start bashing dissenters. Life is mean and grim. The hero"

A Complete review of Terry Gilliam's work (16 movies items)

" Cast : Jonathan Pryce, Robert De Niro, Ian Holm, Bob Hoskins, Michael Palin, Jim Broadbent What was it about? A bureaucrat in a retro-future world tries to correct an administrative error and himself becomes an enemy of the state. My two cents: It is considered by many as Gilliam's ultimate masterpiece and I can't say it doesn't deserve its prestigious reputation. It is a visually impressive and the plot is quite spellbinding to follow. Basically, it is one of those tales taking "
