Incredibly compelling take on the consequences of war and how it affects the family, in particular the relationship between the two brothers. Contains a great performance from Ulrich Thomsen and and the brilliant Connie Nielsen. This is film making at its absolute best, just a shame Bier doesn't do more films-I must check out the rest of her filmography If you enjoyed this check out After The Wedd... read more

A very good movie

Since I kept hearing good things about this flick, I was really eager to check it out. Eventually, even though I liked it a lot, I still ended up with some mixed feelings about the whole thing. Basically, what bothered me was that the story started with two stereotypes and ended up with two other stereotypes. Indeed, it is actually pretty straightforward, the good brother becomes the bad brother a... read more

Brothers is an extraordinary Danish film that explores the primal emotions of sibling rivalry and the toxins of violence released in soldiers in war zones.

" This was quite different from other films dealing with husbands who head off to war. Susanne Bier doesn't do the typical over-emotional romantic drama and I'm glad I avoided reading any reviews for this film or the remake. It is quiet film that unfolds in unexpected and thought provoking ways."

A very good movie

“Since I kept hearing good things about this flick, I was really eager to check it out. Eventually, even though I liked it a lot, I still ended up with some mixed feelings about the whole thing. Basically, what bothered me was that the story started with two stereotypes and ended up with two other stereotypes. Indeed, it is actually pretty straightforward, the good brother becomes the bad brother and the bad brother becomes the good brother. Personally, it is not something that I found really interesting (I don't really care about stereotypes) and it was honestly also rather predictable. So, this issue prevented the movie from becoming a huge masterpiece but it was still a very good movie though. Indeed, the directing was very good and efficient (Susanne Bier is definitely one of the best D” read more

My favourite Scandinavian movies (24 movies items)

"Original Title: 'Brødre' Country: Denmark Directed by: Susanne Bier With: Ulrich Thomsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Connie Nielsen Plot: Two brothers must negotiate changing roles and shifting family dynamics when one is sent to war in Afghanistan. Note: Actually, I had some mixed feelings about this movie. What bothered me was that the story starts with two stereotypes and ends with two stereotypes. But the directing is very good and efficient and above all the acting is just really"
