I have always felt that Casino Royale was the best book in Ian Fleming's 007 series, it featured a Bond who was noticeably different to that in the films that followed, a more human Bond. Daniel Craig captures the essence of Fleming's Bond better than any, including Connery for my money.

"I think you're so blinded by inconsolable rage that you don't care who you hurt. When you can't tell your friends from your enemies, it's time to go."
Quantum of Solace was intended to be the sweet dessert to compliment the main course preceding it (i.e. 2006's Casino Royale). By this I mean Casino Royale developed the characters and established the plot (all the vegetables, so to ... read more

Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (Judi Dench) interrogate Mr White (Jesper Christensen) who reveals the organization which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.
Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a woman who has her own vendetta. On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world's most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (Joaquin Cosio). Using his associates in the organization, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.
In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. The Ups: Direct sequel to "Casino Royale" is a good thing. Olga Kurylenko has a fascinating back-story and is great to look at. Solid acting.
The Downs: Typical "Vendetta" story seen numerous times before. Action scenes are hard to follow as the camera shakes and twists every time something happens. Colorless villains. One of the worst title songs not only in Bond-history but in film history. "
"I've never been a big fan of the 007 series, but Casino Royale really took me off guard as a quality action flick (in fact, my fave action flick of that year). And though, this one isn't on par to Casino (choppy action sequences, looser story) it's high energy & emphasis on characterizations between Bond & "M" were enough to still keep this installment entertaining to the eyes of this non-Bond fan.

"When someone says "We've got people everywhere", you expect it to be hyperbole! Lots of people say that. Florists use that expression. It doesn't mean that they've got somebody working for them inside the bloody room!

Rewatch
I have no idea why this film gets such a bad rap with some fans of Bond; it's good...hell, it's great! Picking up right after the events of Royale, it follows Bond's continued search for revenge for the death of Vesper, whom he fell in love w/ in the previous film.
That's what this film is all about - revenge. Not only for Bond but for Camille (played marvelously by the enchanting Olga Kurylenko). It's darker, drier and more...stark. But it's fitting w/ revenge as the underlying"
