It's about soccer, and it's a pretty European film, complete with: oooo, those dastardly Americans!/I should have gone to America to make money, boo-hoo.

The Indian-immigrant angle is interesting too, especially the one line from Keira Knightley's mom (the elderly white-British matron) who basically cooes at her daughter's Indian friend, saying, in effect: it's *so* good that you y... read more

To be honest, when I first heard of this movie, I thought it sounded really lame and the only reason I decided to check it out anyway was only because I had a weak spot for Keira Knightley. Indeed, except in Great Britain, who was able to understand what the title actually meant? Furthermore, a football movie chosing David Beckham, easily by far the most overrated footballer that ever existed, as ... read more

Description: Of East Indian origin of the Sikh faith, the Bhamra family have been settled in Great Britain for several years. They have two daughters, Pinky and Jessminder. While Pinky is in the process of getting married, Jessminder is preparing to play football - which is not acceptable to her parents. Her parents are clearly uncomfortable with their daughter running around in shorts, chasing a big ball, instead of being clad in a traditional salwar khameez, and learning to cook East Indian recipes. Jessminder must now decide what's important fo ... (more)

“To be honest, when I first heard of this movie, I thought it sounded really lame and the only reason I decided to check it out anyway was only because I had a weak spot for Keira Knightley. Indeed, except in Great Britain, who was able to understand what the title actually meant? Furthermore, a football movie chosing David Beckham, easily by far the most overrated footballer that ever existed, as a role-model was rather hopeless and pathetic from the very start, at least, as far as I was concerned. So, I have to admit that I was prejudiced even before the movie started but, eventually, I still had a hard time to care about the damned thing. I have to admit it, Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley were both quite charming and they did their best with this rather weak material but it was just” read more
