Crikey! What a bloody great Australian film!

"Welcome to Australia!"

Epic in the truest sense, Baz Luhrmann's much-hyped Australia is a film that exhilarates with its grand themes and physical grandeur. Fundamentally the Australian response to classic war epics like Gone with the Wind and Lawrence of Arabia, Luhrmann's majestic motion picture is to date the most expensive Australian production in the country's history (with th... read more

''Just because it is, doesn't mean it should be.''

Set in northern Australia before World War II, an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch reluctantly pacts with a stock-man in order to protect her new property from a takeover plot. As the pair drive 2,000 head of cattle over unforgiving landscape, they experience the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by Japanese forces firs... read more

An average movie

I kept hearing that this movie was supposed to be an Australian version of 'Gone with the wind' but, in my opinion, it is more an Australian version of 'Out of Africa' but well. I must say it took them some time to find the right tone since, at the beginning the movie, the whole thing was really over-the-top and rather comical to watch. But, slowly, it gets more and more dramatic and quite epic. A... read more

November Movie Journal - Xanadon't (27 movies items)

" It's a big, roaming, goofy movie that's lovable in its "bright eyed, bushy tailed" kind of way. Director Baz Luhrmann seems to have an infectious (well, to me anyway) and simple love for cinema, and it's rare that he does anything without huge, equal measures of joy and gusto. There's also a sort of time-less or "classic" feel to this movie. It's presented in a way that calls to mind old Hollywood stars, scripts, and productions. Everyone seems to be running around with a sort of twinkle in th"

"34. Catch sunset over Uluru (Ayers Rock) , Northern Territories, Australia The classic thing that everyone has to do when they go to Uluru (Ayers Rock) is to watch the sunset over the rock. There's even a special viewing area. The change in colour as the sun sinks is incredible, with most changes being most noticeable over the last 5 or 10 minutes before the sun drops below the horizon. 2012 Movie Diary - June (68 movies items)

"If I had to describe in one sentence it'd be: An above-average film with fantastic acting and a touching story, but ultimately it is far too long and can be slightly boring. Not one bad performance, but I didn't really like the way it started out mainly as a comedy, then got flipped on its head and turned into some pretty dramatic shiz."
