Crikey! What a bloody great Australian film!

"Welcome to Australia!"

Epic in the truest sense, Baz Luhrmann's much-hyped Australia is a film that exhilarates with its grand themes and physical grandeur. Fundamentally the Australian response to classic war epics like Gone with the Wind and Lawrence of Arabia, Luhrmann's majestic motion picture is to date the most expensive Australian production in the country's history (with th... read more

''Just because it is, doesn't mean it should be.''

Set in northern Australia before World War II, an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch reluctantly pacts with a stock-man in order to protect her new property from a takeover plot. As the pair drive 2,000 head of cattle over unforgiving landscape, they experience the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by Japanese forces firs... read more

An average movie

I kept hearing that this movie was supposed to be an Australian version of 'Gone with the wind' but, in my opinion, it is more an Australian version of 'Out of Africa' but well. I must say it took them some time to find the right tone since, at the beginning the movie, the whole thing was really over-the-top and rather comical to watch. But, slowly, it gets more and more dramatic and quite epic. A... read more

"SS Waratah Year: 1909 Type: Passenger Steamship On her third voyage between Australia and England, the Waratah made a scheduled stop in Durban, South Africa, whereupon a single passenger disembarked. She set sail for Cape Town with a full complement of 211 passengers and crew and was allegedly sighted twice by other ships in the area, but the Waratah never reached its destination and has never been found since. Movie Reviews (part 2) (50 movies items)

" The Ups: Great historical background. Colorful landscapes. Hugh Jackman as a romantic Clint Eastwood. The Downs: Predictable. Overuse of slow-motion. Soap operatic cliffhangers with dangerous life-and-death situations so that we can "feel" more for the characters. Nicole Kidman overacts as a comedian and her botox don't help her facial responses the least."

" It's a big, roaming, goofy movie that's lovable in its "bright eyed, bushy tailed" kind of way. Director Baz Luhrmann seems to have an infectious (well, to me anyway) and simple love for cinema, and it's rare that he does anything without huge, equal measures of joy and gusto. There's also a sort of time-less or "classic" feel to this movie. It's presented in a way that calls to mind old Hollywood stars, scripts, and productions. Everyone seems to be running around with a sort of twinkle in th"
