This movie is hard to watch, it is a disturbing insight into the evil side of human nature. What makes it more hard to watch is that is based on a true story, and your only getting the g rated version of events, to watch this movie and to think that the events really happen makes you sick to the stomach, and to think a human being a mother of all people could do such things. An American Crime recounts a dreadful event that occurred merely a few decades ago in a typical, unsuspecting American suburban community. Many will collectively concur that this film is an imperative modern tour de force that addresses its subject matter relentlessly and explicitl... read more
What a movie! A very slow movie, that will leave you talking for weeks. A true story that will make you sick to your stomach. Performances that will take your heart away. This movie did not dissapoint me at all, except maybe for the first 15 minutes, when I thought it might be a chick flick, but that change drastically. There was times in this movie, where I wanted to turn away, but couldn't becau... read more

Non the less if you can watch it, it is a brilliant movie, and I love Catherine Keener and for her to make me hate her so much means she done a great job as the abuser. The acting from all the actors is great, this is a tear jerking movie and if you don't walk away crying then your not a human being.” read more
"Catherine Keener plays a cold-hearted, sadistic b**h and the movie sheds light on the innate darkness in human beings- even children. All this would be rough enough without the delicate, heart-breaking performance of Ellen Page as Kenner's victim, Sylvia Likens, or the fact that the whole thing (!) is based on a true story. It is incredible to what a extent a sick person can find blame with an innocent. Little Johnny (Kenner's character's son) made my stomach turn.

"This is one of those movies that you hate to love. It's so wonderful, but so terrible at the same time. You MUST watch it. This is based on a true story, so keep that in mind while watching it. It is truly chilling. From start to finish. Just watch it.

Pretty good movie. It wasn't especially violent,
knowing the whole story I expected more drastic scenes.
Meanwhile, unfortunately, the film doesn't specifically kept in suspense,
very little thrilling narrative. The high rating only because the story
was true, Ellen Page is adorable, and the rest was just average."

"Based on a true story that shocked the nation in 1965, the film recounts one of the most shocking crimes ever committed against a single victim. Sylvia and Jennie Fae Likens, the two daughters of traveling carnival workers are left for an extended stay at the Indianapolis (3850 E. New York St. is hardly suburban, nor was it in 1965, by any stretch of the imagination.) home of single mother Gertrude Baniszewski and her seven children. Times are tough, and Gertrude's financial needs cause her to m"
