“I have seen hundreds of low ratings on this movie. Which shouldn't be if people actually paid attention to who it's aimed at; The British.

Why are Americans watching this, or any other Nationalities I guess, but I'll tell you now, this isn't a movie for Americans, obviously you get the odd American that appreciates British Cinema, but not many. Americans when they think of werewolf they expect blood, gruesome stuff and scary stuff, and lots of it. Yes this movie does have it but not quite up to the Americans standards, that's why I would suggest if you haven't understood British comedy or entrainment etc. Do not watch this, because you won't like it. You'll think it's boring. Although I may only be Commonwealth, I understood the sides which were meant to be understood, I didn'” read more

"The "horror-comedy" subgenre is one that I have much interest in and hope to explore more thoroughly; Night of the Creeps and Evil Dead II are two of my favorites. Though American Werewolf in London did have a share of pleasant moments, it was mostly rather disappointing. Perhaps it was due to the jaunty approach to its content, which, while creative, just wasn't fit for my personal liking. The story was good enough, but didn't quite reach its full potential. (N) "

"This film is probably best known for the special effects , particularily getting to watch as David Naughton is transfomed in to a Werewolf , with deformations , bones cracking , hair growning the whole bit , its quite a scene for sure but I don't think anyone could have expected the response this film has recieved over the years , it's a simple story but very well told with a bit of romance , comedy and certainly a few scares , it's creepy in the right places , suspensful and ultimately sympathe"

Movies I Saw For the First Time in 2012 (98 movies items)

"5.2 Worse Than Listal Rating 5.6 Worse Than IMDb Rating -5.4 Different Than Average Rating I went into this movie really expecting to love it, but it less me down immensely. It doesn't hold up at all. The writing is clunky. The acting is stilted. The pacing is excruciatingly slow. The characters are unbelievable and unlikable. There is no tension, no scares. Just about every joke falls flat. It really is just a mess of a movie. I mean, yes, the transformation scene holds up. It's the only go"

"Before the lead character in this movie was a werewolf, he was a Pepper. And for some subliminal reason, that made me want to be a Pepper too. (Sorry kids. I know that the majority of you most likely won't understand that comment, b'cuz it's before your time. If you wanna know what it means, just look it up on youtube. That is, if you don't wanna be left in the dark. And believe me, you don't wanna be left in the dark. Because, keeping in theme with this list, the dark is where werewolves like "

Roger Ebert didn't like all the Classics (40 movies items)

" His Review : "An American Werewolf in London" seems curiously unfinished, as if director John Landis spent all his energy on spectacular set pieces and then didn't want to bother with things like transitions, character development, or an ending. The movie has sequences that are spellbinding, and then long stretches when nobody seems sure what's going on. There are times when the special effects almost wipe the characters off the screen. It's weird. It's not a very good film, and it falls w"

Interesting film facts (389 movies items)

"David Naughton was reportedly cast because John Landis had seen him in a television commercial for Dr. Pepper. The wolves used in the London Zoo scene were kept privately by Roger Palmer in the UK and appeared in several TV programmes and in adverts. Roger went on to found the UK Wolf Conservation Trust which keeps wolves to this day. The episode of The Muppet Show playing on the television during David's nightmare sequence is indeed a real episode, but the portion shown was never shown in t"
