Based on the true story of William Wilberforce's crusade to abolish slavery in the British Empire, Amazing Grace is a touching story that spans numerous decades. Starting when Wilberforce and William Pitt (soon to be the British Prime Minister) are young men - two of the most influential young men in Britain at the time - the story begins in a period of Wilberforce's life when he is debating giving up politics to take on a career in the church. Pitt soon changes his mind when he introduces Wilberforce to a number of acquaintances who are working against the slave trade. Amazing Grace is a truly inspiring story of a young man's work for human rights before "human rights" became a common phrase. Although the main story is enough to keep you interested, the side-stories are pivotal for engaging the emotions, as well as the mind. The perseverance, tenacity, compassion, and loyalty you'll see in this film are unforgettable.
