Do you ever get the feeling that sometimes an actor really isn't acting? That they're just channeling who they really are as a person and throwing it up on the screen and pretending that it's a performance? That's the feeling that I get when watching Elizabeth Taylor "play" man-eating self-destructive addicts, James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, and Bette Davis in this movie and What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (that last one has more to do with the hatred Davis had for Joan Crawford). Davis plays an aging grand dame who gets caught up in the scheming, backstabbing ways of a young up-and-coming actress.
