An average movie

I thought it was not bad. I particularly enoyed how they depicted the work in the airport, it was rather well done. But then, when they dealt with the personnal life of the airport workers, it began to look like a cheap soap opera. Too bad. Anyway, in spite of this flaws, it remains an entertaining flick and it is definitely worth a look.

Description: Based on Arthur Hailey's best-selling novel, this is the granddaddy of disaster movies, starring Burt Lancaster as a harried airport manager facing an imminent blizzard, spineless bureaucrats and a mad bomber. Pilot Dean Martin's flight to Rome carries a passenger (Van Heflin) who has no intention of crossing the Atlantic alive -- and ... (more)

Filmsite's Greatest Disaster Film Scenes (107 movies items)

"This was the grandfather of them all - adapted from the novel by Arthur Hailey. This Universal film launched the 1970s-80s craze for many other Hollywood airplane disaster films, filmed on a large-scale with an all-star cast. It followed a series of emergency disasters occurring at a large Midwestern hub airport late one snowy night -- at Chicago's Lincoln International Airport (?). Control tower and airport personnel (Burt Lancaster and George Kennedy) negotiated how to land an ill-fated, badly"

"There's way too many characters and exposition. There are many great scenes, and there are several good movies buried in here, but it's too cluttered to make an impression. Still the climax is very entertaining and well worth the wait."

15 From 70. My Favorite Films From The Year 1970 (15 movies items)

"What Jaws did for "going into the water", this movie did for going into the air. After watching this archetypical star-studded 70's disaster flick, you'll never be able to catch a flight without thinking to yourself about who's bright idea was it to us the word "terminal" to describe the area you have to go through before you enter an air-defying craft that weighs several tons & runs on a shitload jet fuel.
